John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 13/09/2026It's a bit late, but @2026esse.bsky.social in Santiago was a real treat - so glad to have the opportunity to share some of my work on Gissing and literary naturalism, and hear so many other interesting papers in such a lovely city! 020
John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Really pleased to have my review of Eret Talviste's 'Strange Intimacies' published by @fimassociation.bsky.social in Feminist Modernist Studies. They took it on when I had to withdraw the review from another journal, and they were so helpful and accommodating. Another great read! 📚tandfonline.comStrange Intimacies: Affect, Embodiment and Materiality in Virginia Woolf and Jean RhysPublished in Feminist Modernist Studies (Ahead of Print, 2026) 020

John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 21/07/2026My first read of Zola - bleak and unrelenting but also darkly fascinating and strangely moving. Not sure if I liked it or loved it. 000

John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 04/06/2026Going to a conference where you aren't speaking is a very different experience to usual. I'm relatively new to Sylvia Townsend Warner, but this event at @ucl.ac.uk was a great introduction to so many of her central ideas. Can't wait to read more! 000
John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 02/06/2026The editors at The Modernist Review always offer great suggestions to improve my writing; the entire process is richly collaborative and rewarding. I am grateful they have let me publish a second time on the latest in Conradian criticism. 1102
John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 01/06/2026Really enjoyed presenting on some of my findings on the 1926 General Strike from my visit to the @wcmlibrary.bsky.social nearly three years ago! Some great papers from fellow panellists too - John Sommerfield's 'May Day' is next on my reading list! 010
John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 18/05/2026Two very different concurrent reads. Much of Mayhew is more expansive and insightful than I’d previously supposed. ‘Villa America’ is an extremely readable introduction to Sara and Gerald Murphy and their (imagined) interactions with writers from the Lost Generation. 000

John D. Attridge @johndattridge90.bsky.social · 05/03/2026Sometimes Dickens can be preachy (and a bit of a slog), but the majority of these sketches make for much lighter reading.
