Seems bad. Also, you can fairly argue that the NPT was never intended to prevent a nuclear-armed state from attacking a state without nuclear weapons, but that is precisely the sort of action that would undermine the treaty - and we've seen it from multiple nuclear powers recently.

We should be worried. But not about our kids or the content they produce and consume. We should be worried about the infrastructure of social media that has made sustained, focused attention — the very capacity required for individual growth, deep personal connection and societal participation — feel unattainable for an entire generation. Instead of debating whether teenagers are ruining their brains with Ballerina Cappuccina, we should be asking why the world’s most sophisticated technology companies are systematically optimizing for cognitive depletion to harvest our attention.

I love the kicker here
Even for the unwise case of zero-decision time, assuming a kill vehicle like the one described above, each interceptor would need to have a rocket booster that brings the interceptor to a mass of more than 14 tons. The mass of the full satellite carrying such an interceptor would be roughly 20 tons—or some 250 times that of the proposed Brilliant Swarms satellites. Providing two-on-one targeting against a salvo of five missiles would require a constellation of 4,000 satellites with a total mass in orbit of some 80,000 tons—again, to be replaced every 5 years or so.

From yesterday's Natsec Daily - a group of former JAGs are urging Congress "to give U.S. military leaders a formal way to challenge orders they believe are unlawful under the Trump administration." They also expressed opposition to the Iran war and the boat strikes. www.politico.com/newsletters/...

After the event, I asked a small group of Indigenous men in the parking lot what they thought of the meeting and of separation. It’s all garbage, the eldest of the three, Patrick Buffalo, of the Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis, said: “Where are the Asians? Where are the Black people? How come it’s just white people?” It’s all about Mr. Trump, he said. The world was divided everywhere because of him. “A lot of these people,” he said, pointing toward the hall, “are even threatening, ‘We’ll go the peaceful way for now.’” And then what?

The Trump administration loves economic nationalism...except when other countries do it in response to the US www.nytimes.com/2026/08/25/w...
A Canadian official also said that the U.S. side also wanted Canada to swiftly roll back a program it began last year to support industries impacted by U.S. tariffs, known as “Buy Canadian,” which prioritizes using domestic products and suppliers for public-sector projects — similar to a policy the United States implements to favor its own industries.

This sort of argument--which I hear a lot from the foreign policy establishment--is fundamentally antidemocratic. "Outside the glare of public recrimination" - so in other words, insulated from public oversight. www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...
It is not only the forces outside the alliances that are drawing them together but also the forces within. Trump and his team have tried to root out a supposed “woke” deep state of activists, but the real deep state is both more mundane and more consequential. Alliance professionals carry on the daily business of cooperation outside the glare of public recrimination—military planners and intelligence officers, export control experts and sanctions specialists, central bankers and trade negotiators, and the engineers and standard setters who keep allied systems talking to one another. They form a dense network of relationships built and tended across decades. Because the work is technical rather than political, and because it runs on timelines of years and often decades, it is slow to build but also slow to unwind. The very dullness of it lends the alliances a ballast in the face of a turbulent political cycle.

Straight-up false - Saudi Arabia will not be required to sign the Additional Protocol, which is the gold standard for this sort of agreement.
“Rest assured, these agreements uphold the highest standards of nuclear safety and nonproliferation,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in the statement announcing the deal.

This is such a bad idea that the Arms Control Association and FDD, which are normally at odds on foreign policy, both agree that it shouldn’t happen.
