Dave Brubeck seems like an unlikely civil rights icon, but he comes by it honestly—as John Brown did. Brubeck’s parents were quick to teach racial equality and the horrors of enslavement, and Dave steadily pushed the rock forward. During WWII, he formed the first integrated band in the US Army

John Brown was a so-called radical abolitionist, but that is a misnomer. “Radical” referred to his multiracial organization. Brown was invested in the Constitution and the Golden Rule and all people created equal: treat folks as you'd like to be treated. #johnbrown250 #America250 #pushingtherock
