We’re really gonna see how far you can push your base before they finally abandon you. I honestly really hope it’s a like D+10 year with numerous deep Red seats wiped out. The incentive structure facing the GOP needs to stop favoring cranks for things to ever get bettee

I think Obama benefits from being essentially the last president during “normal times.” Plus also being a genuinely good president when compared to *gestures broadly*

I vaguely remember watching him get inaugurated in Kindergarten. 2028 will also be the first election where kids born after Obama will vote - which blows my mind that they exist

We’re gonna see literally thousands of Brownback tier problems facing every school district and city. Many are already being hit

I do wonder how things are gonna go in the late 2020s and 2030s once those property tax cuts really start to sting for the states that have cut them this decade

David Graham pls lock in to get 5.08% of the vote

Glad to see my home state become a money sink for the GOP

Adam Hamilton coming out of nowhere and being one of the better recruits of the cycle is so funny

It’s funny how we’re getting to the point where flipping 4 Senate seats might be a disappointment to some relative to the expectations being generated I will believe Dem 1984 when I see it lol

It’s interesting that the GOP consistently maxes out at like 42-43%. I do wonder how many of their voters will come home in October, but yikes for them

Still blows my mind that there’s endless commentary on “women being too mean to Nice Men” when the basic demand is to “please do something about endemic sexual assault and harassment”

Local government entities across the country are getting hit hard by inflationary pressures, especially relating to health insurance/wages, and the resounding response from most state govs has been “fuck you, you need to cut more”

But the GOP is doing all they can to ensure they experience a total collapse

Whatever he has to say to win over a critical mass of Kansas conservatives to win lol

Small communities are often great at helping each other, but if you fall on the wrong side of social dynamics, your life is going to be a lot harder and lonelier

I think the insularity of small towns (like my parents and some of my friends parents had few friends because of how cliquish it was) and the tendency to be dominated by a cadre of large landowners is something that is never understood by people who are just looking from the outside

I can’t wait to see if this midterm ends up being “normal thermostatic backlash” or “a extinction level event” for the GOP

Dems gonna run to beat their record

I am curious what political cleavages are gonna emerge between the young/old as our population ages. Housing is the big one I think of, where older homeowners block new construction or vote to freeze property taxes as they don’t feel an obligation to the young.

That could push his approval into the mid to low 20s

John Bingham @johnbingham.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I still wonder if the GOP experiences a total collapse (54 D Senate) if we’d start seeing large amounts of conservatives turning on him due to getting blown out

Masterson being at 51 tells me there’s a good chance a lot of voters break for Marshall at the end.
020
John Bingham @johnbingham.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Masterson leading with 51 in that same Emerson poll kinda makes me think that a lot of voters will break for Marshall in November. Would love to see my state be based for once, but the Gubernatorial polls concern me

Which I guess they may finally lose out on it this time around.

John Bingham @johnbingham.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
They’ve just been stuck in a radicalizing death spiral since 1994 and the incentive to exit it is just not there yet. I guess it shows just how resilient the US economy is that they haven’t had to reap the full consequences of their insane fiscal failures

Media gonna be like “Voters rejection of Democratic candidates in Kansas proves the party still has a long way to appeal to working class Americans”

I’m trying to keep my expectations at D+6.4 so I don’t get disappointed lol Though I think the GOP has done about all they can to break modern polarization

Also ironic given that their party was founded partially due to opposition to the Mexican War lol

John Bingham @johnbingham.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
You’d legitimately see the rise of a domestic Hispanic IRA if something insane like that were to happen. It actually terrifies me that so much of the GOP can’t see how much military action in Mexico would destabilize domestic politics

Term limits means there’s at least some incentive to go for higher office since they’re gonna have to leave eventually

These writers, who write constantly about the True Volk of the Countryside, know jack shit about what life is actually like there.

What also drives me crazy is that there is actually a large amount of knowledge work that goes on in rural communities!!! Hospitals, small accounting firms, schools, community colleges Like all the agribusiness needs accountants and lawyers to help run it

Growing up in a white rural area, beyond country music, most of my classmates listened to a ton of rap and hip hop alongside country music

This is how I’ll feel in 2045 when kids born in the 20s don’t remember the pandemic or Trump

Still think the most like Senate result is Marshal wins like 51% to Hamilton’s 46%. So like 10 points closer than this race should be

Americans are gonna love living through a world where we have to make hard fiscal decisions to keep things from going boom

I think it remains pretty like that those lean GOP voters come home and the Republicans hold the Senate. At the same time, the Admin is doing all it can to keep that from happening so lol lmao lol

I miss being disappointed over the expansion of public services not being as much as I’d like vs. yippee birthright citizenship survives by 1 Supreme Court vote

The Republic of California that exists in “The Glass” as a militaristic, liberal garrison state surrounded by Fascist enemies is what I worry might be in store for the what democracies remain in 2060
