Log scale graphs like that should be banned. Horrible design and implementation. And baffled at the cost for solar.

And they are still not commiting fully to NACS for all their brands and government adoption there. It may seem small but you at least need a charging port standard to give confidence,

One problem is they they previously (at the time) went fairly hard with CHAdeMO which is not fit for propose now. They spent a lot of money many years ago to get a reasonable charging network for the time. Cars didn't sell & chargers not used and it burned them (too) much & difficult to recover now.

April 2026 China EV charger numbers: 21.955 million total chargers in China (up 474k from March) 17.048 million private (up 386k from March) 4.907 million public (up 44k from March) from the China Charging Alliance (EVCIPA data).

Very weak article and lacking in any details A vague 28 million tonnes if a slight decrease (how much?). If every target was matched it would save (by their figures) 120 million tonnes total at a fixed 7.5 million tonnes a year (which does seem right that is that linear).

I like the being able to track the data. We all have allsorts of interests. I haven't been to China but spend a crazy amount of time and knowledge about chargers and networks in China.

Ok cool. it just felt a bit on me in your rants.😜 I'm a reasonable fan of Tesla though as I think they do a lot of things right with the building of chargers and the integration to their cars and do/did great for EV adoption.

I'm happy to engage but you make it difficult by ignoring what I'm saying. I don't think you a weirdo many want to pay with card, I agree. They need to have that. I have always said that. Also (as the UK has all card payments for DC chargers now) people also want PnC and to a less extent apps.
100
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
That's fine. Your choice is to pay by card. You can opt out of the other options PnC and apps. The only option you don't have to pay by cash, maybe you want that oldest, most tried and tested system too.

John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Walmart are the worst example of the new chargers. Fancy new Alpi HYC400 units but no card readers. And they will have huge network too.
010
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Yes, pay by card, PnC or an app is best for DC charging. My gripe is why are automakers, CPO, charging hardware having so many problems implementing PnC. The specifications are sound, they should be able to sort it.
110
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
I don't understand that is true. I think there should be choices. PnC, card payment & apps to start a charge. You seem to be against that. ok PnC isn't for you but for lots of people it is a better solution and you want to take dream away from them.
110
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Not necessary is true. for DC there should be a card payment option. card readers though are the number issue of broken chargers now on modern hardware (Internet connection needed, etc) PnC is useful though are you saying don't have that as well? Baffling if you are.
100
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
It sounds like because Tesla popularised/'invented' PnC that's the reason you don't like it? I hope you are not saying that. The world is a big place many EV owners see a future of PnC everywhere. EU mandating PnC compatibility with new level2 chargers , UK has card readers. Who is right?

John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
There are 3 ways to pay for public (AC/DC) charging. PnC, cards or apps. What do you like see in the future? All, a combination? If every car, charger hardware, CPO, payment emobilty, etc had PnC isn't that good?? Seamless charging is not just 'flashy' it is useful.
110
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
I'm not sure I get the gripe with Tesla here. Sure the idea behind plug&charge was popularise by Tesla that does Level2 as well. But you think it is useful and see the problems with Level2 card readers everywhere
100
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
I know but it is chicken and egg. I would like both. Even new networks using alpi hardware don't have card readers and only through an app. No plug and charge, no card reader only an app. I'm looking at you Walmart!!
000
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
People want to have card readers on their network. Imagine the hassle Tesla has with that in todays climate on top of anti EV vandals.
000
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
I believe the plug and charger standards are more reliable. There is no Internet connection to fail that causes many card readers to fail and card readers still are not great out the wilds of nature. It is the major point of failure on modern EV chargers now.
000
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Card reader though are now one of the major points of failure on chargers. That is the issue here too. They need to have them but also they need to be robust. Why so many failures, it is really common. I helps Tesla uptime where they don't have them but they rolling out new payment station per site
000
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Yes they have done a good job of that and other CPOs have done a poor job in the past.
000
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
I am talking about 'Plug & Charge' the ISO 15118.x standard. Tesla didn't invent that or have anything to do with it really. There is also Autocharge another similar but old inferior standard.
110
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
I DO think they need card readers as well. Give options. That is the best way. I think a lot of people want that plug & charge and some like you are not bothered. It has been promised for many years now by manufactures but slow to come out, that is my complaint, they have been slow to implement.
101
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
I'm in the UK where they all chargers need to have card readers by law. It is the right way to go. But I understand ease of use of tesla to just plugin, walk away, also have card readers, then apps. Plug & charge for other EVs has been so slow though they need to do better (CPOs, chargers & cars)

Thanks you for being so gracious. I think both 'sides' can be quick to judge. I worry about posting positive things here about superchargers as I will get shot down no matter how I word it. I do have admiration for Tesla building the supercharger network and setting reliability standards for others

Thanks for engaging. My main interest/specialization is chargers. I don't own a Tesla or Tesla stock. The point I was making is that most of the time 400V chargers are fine for most EVs in the world. China has got to EV revolution with 65% of the DC chargers under 120kW. Most cars don't do 800V.
1111
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
The biggest EV maker in the world BYD has only in the last made a 800V car. 90% of the EVs in the world are 400V. Tesla behind the curve for sure. I expect once they get a meaningful network they will make these cars. But I know much about cars my (unhealthy) area of interest is chargers.

John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
They install more chargers in the US than the top 20 CPOs combined last year. They have started installing all the high powered stuff (and have the old stock partly built so will still see some going online) but only new high powered being made.
110
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
They only make 1000V 500kW stuff now. They are installing them, they will be 'pumping' them going forward.
000
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
Tesla have stopped make the 400V charging equipment. They only make 1000V 500kW stuff now. There is still innovation there.

Alpitronic are not dominating installs over Tesla. Doing really well but Tesla install more than them in the US by far.
110
John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 02/04/2026
Alpitronic make great standalone units. Standalone though are not really the future and are old tech. The vast majority of the world's high powered chargers are distributed setups. Alpi are going that way too with the HYC1000. Which is pretty much the same as the Tesla V4 stall & cabinets.

NATO would not be there in hours, it would take weeks. I doubt they would help anyway. Also NATO would be split up further so I'm not sure what would be left. The European NATO members would need to have all their defences looking at Russia.

It is difficult in most countries to get averages my quick look at random ones in Germany it seemed the average was more than 0.60 probably more like 0.70 I know some others like @electricfelix.bsky.social tend to feel it high too.

John Baker @johnbakercharging.bsky.social · 04/02/2026
What is the average price for DC cahrging per kWh in Germany? In the UK it is about Euro 0.90 In the UK those 'smart' chargers are really just overnight rates for about 6-8 hours at about Euro 0.08 Must be one of the biggest ratios between those that can charge at home and DC charging in the world.

That is incorrect that the majority in America are 150kW. Only 21% (or 8,300) are 150kW or lower. There is 53.7% (or 21,300) are 250kW and 25.3% (or 10,000) are 325kW and a tiny amount are 500kW.

And more from the EVCIPA December 2025 report. We have finally have another breakdown of the AC/DC chargers they stopped in May 2025 There are 2.256 million public DC chargers in China predicted to add another 0.759 million (33.6%) next year.

Where is it behind others? In China it is but I can't think of many Western markets where another CPO has a led of them and collectively North America, Europe, etc leads numbers, price, etc.

This is about the NACS standard. There is nothing in the NACS standard that say they need to overheat it is a bit like saying CCS1 as a standard are always broken because of issues with old EA chargers.
