LLM prompting works best if you treat it like a tree rather than a linear conversation, but the UI for this is quite awkward at the moment

The new work mode in chatGPT is everything that codex cloud never was. 60 minutes of dev work from a prompt I sent off on the subway. No self hosting, no security theater, it just did it. Well impressed

Really like this because it describes a common mindset concisely. I disagree, but if this is what you get out of coding I understand why this moment is not great for you

Love when internal tooling ends up in the production build. Here the kids app for SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster

The good news is that eufy is finally rolling out e2e encryption for their surveillance cameras. The bad news is that this kind of password policy hints at less than fantastic encryption implementation

This is seriously addictive though, have to self bind somehow

The new memory feature in Gemini is going to need a bit of work

This prompt combines two common misconceptions - that the model will output better content if told to roleplay a "senior" engineer, and that suppressing reasoning is a good hack for speeding up turns. The model thinks out loud. Telling it to be terse is basically telling it to think less

Going to see how far I get with codex. I'm on a measly plus plan and it's very unclear how many tokens that gets you - but I haven't run out yet

Surprised to see OpenAI disable SSL validation here in the chatgpt sandbox. I'm sure it's a manageable risk in their setup but kind of unnecessary to accept it

Having fun playing architect with Gemini. It one-shotted this diagram of a Grafana/Prometheus/Loki logging/monitoring stack for LLMs deployed to k8s with Nvidia NIM. Pretty inspiring

Hey team good news chatgpt said my new architecture is totally feasible let's build rocket emoji

I think this Gemini behaviour is really confusing because at the moment we expect software outputs to be deterministic. We've internalised that there's no point to press retry if it doesn't work the first time, but now suddenly that's actually essential because the tool is intrinsically flaky
Here’s the transcription:

set all the lights in the house to Daylight
100% brightness

Sorry, I cannot control your device settings or
smart home devices.

yes you can

> a Google Home

Set to daylight and 100% brightness.

Using Gemini to control Google Home works better than the old assistant on a good day, but every 20 requests or so the inherent LLM stochasticity kicks in and it insists it has no idea how to control my lights

As a developer working in the public sector I can tell you I'm *begging* my bosses to let me use AI tooling unhindered. These takes are really hard to understand

Regression to the mean again. Here we pick an extreme bin of one variable (value-to-sales) at time x and plot what happens over subsequent time points to a correlated variable (returns). It's everywhere when you learn to recognise it

American payment systems are just so funny to an outside observer. Yes of course you pay for the car from the future by posting a slip of paper with your signature on it to the offices of the auto maker
