I've been creating a free author/reader resource site. It'll be launching later this week and has a social aspect which you'll be more than welcome to have your own space in should you find yourself permanently 'Unfacebooked' and want a safe space. If that sounds good to you, keep in touch.

WOMEN IN HORROR: 1,000s of women read and write horror. Enough to subscribe to Kayleigh's YouTube & push it over 1,000+ subscribers, and even 4,000+ 'watch hours' so it can be monetized. It's free & takes seconds. Good reviewers are rare & worthy of supporting. www.youtube.com/@happygoatho...

PSA FOR HORROR AUTHORS. Selling physical copies of horror books and your related merch to Europe just got harder. Horror books, like all other books, will need to comply with the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) when it comes into effect on December 13, 2024. You may want to Google it.

At the Intersection of Horror and Death Metal comes a new anthology. The event = DETHFEST. The fifteen bands who played on stage in the Try Not To Die at Dethfest adventure book tell their own stories in an anthology that's definitely not Y.A. friendly. Pre-Order now. geni.us/DevilsPlaylist

I'm working on a huge project so writing has taken a bit of a back seat for a couple of years, but I have been invited to a fun anthology which I accepted even though a bit 'rusty'. I needn't have been concerned. I am currently over 3,000 words in and it feels so good to be back in the groove!

There are 108 days left to 2023. If you write an average of 740 words a day, you’ll have an 80,000 word book by the end of the year. Some days you can write more, some you can write less, some not at all. The point is, it’s feasible. Write on!

Good to meet you too Joel. I'm mainly horror-centric but welcome all writers, especially intense ones!

Not as many as you might think. People mostly just assume one way or another. It's up to the individual to make their own minds up ;)

Edgar Allan Poe hasn't published anything in well over a year and people are still talking about him, so if he can do it, there's certainly no reason the rest of us can't take rests every once in a while. The words and readers will still be there.

Day two on Bluesky. Already found a variety of tribes that seem to be 'my people', so I'm following them like a reluctant stalker. I kinda sorta feel sorry for them ;) On the plus side, it'll do me some good as I really need to work on my social skills.

You know how in Small Gods by Terry Pratchett the only gods who truly exist are those with believers? Authors are like that too. We only really exist when people talk about our books. We don't want worship, just readers. Please tell people about us.

I'm fine thanks, I hope the same for you. As for the groups, they're not going anywhere and nothing is compulsory, so if you're there that's fine, and if you're not... I'll miss ya, but I'll know that you're busy, which is a good thing ;)

Joe X Young @joexyoung.bsky.social · 13/09/2023

I guess all we can really do is our best and see what happens. I wish you all the luck you can handle, even though I believe we mostly make our own ;)

Joe X Young @joexyoung.bsky.social · 13/09/2023

That'll be the bit that I need to get to grips with as I normally only 'speak' if I'm spoken to or can help with something. It'll make a change to just be 'sociable' ;)

110

Joe X Young @joexyoung.bsky.social · 13/09/2023

Glad to see that. I'm doing fine thank you, only joined this platform yesterday and trying to get to grips with it (I wasn't much of a twitter/X user). I'm optimistic that it'll be a decent fit though ;)

From what I gather getting an agent isn't easy, but I've seen that there are several on Bluesky, so you never know your luck! I hope you find one that gets you out there.

Consider it done, always happy to get to know more authors.

010

I might do that, it's still more a case of sounding the place out and seeing what the best use is for Bluesky.
