joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I'd be interested to see the intersection between people that like AI and the workload they have; i.e. if they work in really intense environments where speed is a major factor, possibly (probably) above quality. 010
joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Nope. It was novel at first. It is still useful, but mainly because search engines are crap these days. Peak Internet was in the 00s, and it's been downhill ever since, IMO. 110

joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I'm with you there! White wine vinegar is really nice too. Distilled white vinegar is OK for some circumstances. There are better options though IMO, but if that's all you have to hand, it does a job and I can't be snarky about that. 010

joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 06/10/2026When I worked in a restaurant, we'd set up a massive pan of water, break the eggs carefully (in batches) into one container and pour them in - because they were fresh, they had enough time to separate and form a skin, so we could then scoop them out and cool them and store them for service. 020
joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Your tips are great (though I'll add, adding a little bit of vinegar *does* add subtle flavour which some prefer). I would also add though, fresh eggs are the best option, if you can get them. The albumen breaks down over time, which is why you end up with the loose bits and structural issues. 220

They're are some iconic plates with names, but mostly we just come up with nice food, share a recipe with friends and relatives and don't put a name to it so it doesnt register as a UK "dish". 110

joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 02/10/2026This is so bad. Keep your mind and your tools sharp. AI might be here to stay, in one form or another, but it doesn't think in the same way humans can - if we can even call it thinking. 120

joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 26/09/2026And if you're a performance geek, you're aware closures aren't cached, and for loops are the only other option on a hot path - EC solves that. 010
joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 26/09/2026No "bun" code. No `some Collection.sream()...` - the operations are available on the collection. As they should be. EC IMO, represents the best of what is possible from a Java collection API. 110
joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Add to that, the level of symetry is what you really want to make your code easy to understand - negated filters are no longer a problem (and filter was always a poor name - inclusive or exclusive?). 110
joesteel.bsky.social @joesteel.bsky.social · 26/09/2026100% this. JCA do well to encapsulate internals, but fail to deliver in the same way EC does. As an example, how many times have you resorted back to a loop just because you didn't have an index to work with? 110
