On June 15th 1844, Charles Goodyear issued a patent for the vulcanization of rubber.
Rubber was made to serve a practical purpose, to fulfill a need.A symbol of invention spurred by capitalism.
And then it became a hobby, and that's where it startsgetting fascinating.
I don't see a lot of people talk about what rubber means to themon a more raw level, so I thought I'd share.
My relationship with latex is... abstract. More on the fantasy side than interest in the material itself, probably. I've always strongly identified with liquid, flowing, reflective, ever-changing shapes. Latex garments were as close to that as it gets. By wearing it,I become fluid. The mass of my body is the same, yet theshapes are now subtly changing.

My skin becomes a beautiful reflection of my surroundings, capturing and bouncing off light with such intense focus, and it's a sensory delight to look at. I can probably spend hours admiring latex by just touching and watching the reflections ripple and move on the surface. And of course, I love the smell. It's comforting, as it's so heavily associated with the rest of the sensations latex brings.
I've found that my relationship with latex is asexual. It doesn't arouse me as much as it is a deep sense of identity for me.
I'm ever-flowing and shiny.
