We’re getting close to winding up the first story arc. Issue 6 and 7 will bring things to a head (issue 7 will drop December) and pave the way for new stories in 2027!

Fortress issue 6 drops in October! Get your orders in at your LCS. I wanted to try something a little different with this cover, a quieter, reflective scene. Sure, it’s probably not what you should do for an action comic, but hey, there’s no editor telling me I can’t 😉

A freestyle drawing… no plan, no structure, just finding my way as the lines go down.

Still addicted to, in love with, the end-to-end process of making comics. But walking into your LCS and picking up the finished product in print, that’s absolute magic. Thanks to everyone that’s been picking up the book! And a big welcome to new readers that are jumping on board!

Fortress 5 is out now! Get it from your LCS, add it to your pull list, and read it to your cat. Cats love comics.

A new player has entered the game. Friend, foe or just here to make things more complicated? Maybe all of the above? Fortress 5 is out on Wednesday!

Joel van der Knaap @joelvdk.bsky.social · 21/06/2026

finally out this week! Available from your friendly neighbourhood comics store. I had Mechanical Violator Hakaider playing in the background a lot as I worked on this issue. There’s something in the tone of that film that I want to carry over into Fortress. Time will tell…

Inks and halftones for the cover of Fortress 6… plus a few gems that are inspiring me as I work on issues 6 and 7, wrapping up the first story arc!

Some back matter from Fortress 5. Character designs I’ve had sitting around for awhile. They’ll come into play in future issues 👀

Just a few days away from sending Fortress 5 to print… finally! Here’s a few bits and pieces, trying not to show too much.

Love this idea. I was playing with a similar thought about a year ago… printing out panels from Fortress on my crappy b&w printer, cutting them out and making a paste-up collage on a large canvas. Just for fun

Got some bits and pieces of old stock I want to clear out. Putting together a few zine packs that’ll be available from my store in the next few days, for those that are interested.

I’ve been meaning to get to Starship Godzilla… thanks for the reminder! Written by fellow Aussie, Chris Gooch so I gotta check it out. Color of the End looks incredible. Right up my alley. Thank you!

Both excellent choices! Been a fan of Simon’s work since Jan’s Atomic Heart. I definitely need to check out more of Matt’s work though.

Has anyone read Is Ted Ok from Mad Cave? Looks interesting. Outside of small press, I haven’t been checking out many new comics. Give me some recommendations people! Open to anything really, but I do lean towards sci-fi and things that are a little trippy… just nothing from Marvel or DC though.

Rarely do any sort of fan art. These were from a couple years back now. If you follow me on instagram you probably would have seen them before. Would eventually like to do a manga based fan art zine one day.

I’ve hit a bit of a lull and needed to be excited about comics again. Figured Ronin will do the trick. Did you read Ronin Rising as well? I still haven’t checked it out yet.
