You don't need complex rigs to make fun animation and the OG Moho 1.0 character, Crazy Guy, is the best example of this! Watch me animate him and why simple Moho rigs are better in my latest YouTube tutorial! ➡️https://youtu.be/ra5gA4KUQyQ #mohoanimation #ianimation #cartoon

Just finished recording drawing the layout for the first scene in Moho. I usually draw the flats directly in Moho and then export the layers to paint in Clip Studio. #mohoanimation #animation

Ready for my Close-Up, Mr. DeMille!

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

Thanks! Just exporting Image Sequences ;) Not all animation is Moho, the dog is pretty much frame by frame in any ol' Pixel Art software. I only started experimenting with Moho stuff midway and it worked surprisingly well.

Spoopy guy for my spoopy game. Moho rig – works real well even when aliased so a nice fit for my low res 90's style game!

"Dating Advice" – Just a little something i made in Moho 😊 Audio is from "Conan the Destroyer" (1984) and features Olivia d'Abo as well as the magnificent Grace Jones. #animation #mohoanimation #illustration #drawing #art #indieanimation

It's busy in animation-land! Working on a little scene in Moho and also did a first, super generic crappy walk cycle in Umoupen to get to know the timeline better :D Happy that the animation software landscape is becoming more diverse! #indieanimation #animation

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 12/07/2026

Took an hour to learn Umoupen lol… guess one advantage of being a 2D animation app nerd… Anyways, definitely one the competition should keep an eye on. 😉👀 Could get dangerous. Adobe Animate refugees with a focus on frame by frame should be really happy though!

Making a lil’ skit in @toonsquid.bsky.social and building old school, symbol based pseudo rigs for it! Fun! #toonsquid #animation #indieanimation

A first walk cycle pose with him 😅

Finally got around finishing this guy. Really want to animate a walk cycle with him! Some animation would be nice for a change haha. #stopmotion #claymation

I learned how to make silicon molds tonight to make replacement heads more easily especially for things like squash and stretch! Apart from some leaks in my form, i it went surprisingly smooth! Exciting!

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 29/05/2026

Still looots of smoothing necessary and he's missing his shoes but we're getting there... #stopmotion

More puppets in progress... still very rough but we're getting there. #stopmotion #claymation

020

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

I far prefer him over the cutesy schmutesy Disney version. This is a worker‘s bear who can get things done!

010

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

Okay, re-sculpted this guy AGAIN but this time with the Newplast (HUE) clay... still kinda wonky in places but not tooooo bad for a first flat puppet... i think i'm happy enough now to animate him eventually. #claymation #stopmotion #clay #art #animation

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 14/05/2026

„Oy!“ A new claymation character… i think i‘m slowly getting better at them 😅

030

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 03/05/2026

Inspired by Oli Putland's way of animating rigs, i experimented with just animating a quick and dirty character on two's straight ahead today in Moho. Was fun and i like that it doesn't look tween-y. Definitely want to explore more into that direction.

Joel Mayer @joelmayerprods.bsky.social · 01/05/2026

A cut-out puppet making traditional animation, now i've seen everything. #mohoanimation #animation #moho #indieanimation

Might be an unpopular opinion but soviet Winnie the Pooh blows the Disney version out of the water 😆 I like the grumpy optimism ( i don't understand a word he's saying but he sure sounds likea worker who knows what he's talking about) #animation

Two resources with great references for what (in my opinion) makes great designs for 2D cut-out/rigged animation! And best of all: they're both completely free! Z is for Zagreb: archive.org/details/z-is... Cartoon Modern animationobsessive.substack.com/p/our-treat-...
