Let’s replace all the horse evolution displays (which misrepresent evolution as linear and goal-oriented) with chaotic tableaus of all the shapes crocodiles have been #FossilFriday

What if you laid out all the meanders of a river along a straight line, so that you can break the river into straight-ish segments and fill arbitrary spaces? This is the Purus River in Brazil; you can see how it is getting wider and the meanders are getting larger in the downstream direction
The meandering planform of the Purus River (a tributary if the Amazon), shown as white wiggles on a black background. The width of the river and the size of the meanders are increasing downstream (top to bottom, left to right).

Drumlinized land use, shaded by NDVI. Fields with various degrees of vegetation greenness, oriented parallel to drumlin long axes reflecting two different ice flow directions across the Green Bay Lobe, southern Wisconsin.
Agricultural land with many long narrow fields shaded various colors from green to yellow, indicating the normalized difference vegetation index of vegetation greenness. Fields are oriented north-south parallel to drumlins and ice sheet flow direction.Agricultural land with many long narrow fields shaded various colors from green to yellow, indicating the normalized difference vegetation index of vegetation greenness. Fields are oriented northeast-southwest parallel to drumlins and ice sheet flow direction.

The Bluesky algorithm is eye opening. X is manipulating the Following feed so heavily that I see almost nothing from the accounts I follow over there.

BlueSky has 28.6 million users and is growing by 3 users per second [bcounter.nat.vg]. Twitter has 611 million users and is shrinking by 1 user per second [www.statista.com/statistics/303723]. At these rates, BlueSky will have more users than Twitter sometime in 2030.
