As I was placing the pavement curve into the artwork, I realised that I would have to tweak the shape of the edge of the road. Because the original shape would have looked too steep and diagonal so instead I turned the road into a cul-de-sac. #EastSussexart #photocollage #artworkprocess

For the latest stage of creating this artwork I have placed in rough markers. So I was able to work out where the steps and road will go in the artwork. I also considered where I may want extra bushes and trees in the artwork, to help soften some of the gaps in between the different buildings.

After having a look at “High Weald” artwork it is interesting how the different lines and light and dark shades in the fields help give an impression of the shapes of the fields. Also I like the way the different colours of the fields give your eyes more to look at. #Northiam

In “Brighton. Pier” artwork I explored the fun side of Brighton and Hove in particular the beach. Also by giving the artwork a fun twist by placing the road signs in surreal places. #Brightonseafront

In “De La Warr Pavilion Staircases” I feel the way I was able to blend the different floors together works well as this doesn’t draw your eye away from the rest of the artwork and also doesn’t make the artwork feel too surreal or strange. #DeLaWarr #Bexhill

The main change I have made is to remove the modern shop building with the archway next to it. This was because I feel drawing peoples’ eyes to a space behind the second row of buildings, could be a distraction from people viewing the top row of shops. #shopsigns

“The next station is” was initially inspired by the vast differences of the architectural styles of my local train stations. I find it interesting how looking at the artwork that it is not obvious that they are train station buildings. #EastSussexart #photocollage

When creating this artwork I wanted to explore how the different shop and pub frontages interact with each other. In particular the different shapes, colours and styles of the signage. I started this artwork by positioning the photographs on the sheet of paper. #shopsigns

“Brighton. Pier” artwork feels a lot more cramped. Where in “Brighton Pavilion” artwork the buildings look like there is space in between the different buildings because there is either foliage or grass in between them. #brightonpavilion #Brightonseafront

In “Marsh Power” the electricity pylons draw your eyes towards the background of the artwork. In “High Weald” the different shades of the fields help show the shapes of the hills. #photocollage #Rother #Romneymarsh

I decided to move the Gatehouse more towards the centre. This was to stop the middle of the sketch feeling blocked off from the viewer. In the second sketch I also decided to move Lewes Castle, this will help give more of a sense of the hill going up to the castle. #Lewes #LewesCastle

“Beach. Huts.” and “Sussex Style” artworks originated from the same creative idea, which was to explore how the similarities and differences of the different buildings interact with each other. For “Beach. Huts.” artwork, I decided to make the landscape around the beach huts a beachscape.

When creating the “Sea Shelter” artwork I deliberately kept the colour palette quite plain and subtle. Apart from the strong red and yellow on the signs. This was to help give a cold drab feel to the artwork like a cold winters day. #EastSussexart #photocollage #Hastings #stleonards

Adding Battle Abbey to the artwork helps draw your eye through the artwork. I added in the different parts and pavements to the artwork, by having different colours and textures help break these different sections up. #EastSussexart #photocollage #BattleAbbey #Battletown

“Flower. Power.” was created during the Covid pandemic, because of this I had to be creative as I was only using photographs I’ve taken for other artworks in the past and photographs from my garden. #eastsussexartists #Romneymarsh #Windturbine

I’ve created this sketch to help work out what else would work being added to the artwork. Also to get a rough idea where these objects could be placed. In particular focusing on the street furniture. #EastSussexart #Battletown

My next step was to reposition the building slightly to reduce the number of gaps between the buildings. I’ve added in another building because of the fact that before, the artwork felt slightly lopsided with more buildings on the top row on one side than the other. #BattleAbbey #Battletown

As I’m cutting out the different buildings for this artwork, I’m seeing how the different gaps between the buildings are showing you glimpses into the second row of buildings. I feel this effect is starting to work well. #EastSussexart #photocollage #BattleAbbey

“De La Warr Pavilion Staircases” - from the beginning I was moving more out of my creative comfort zone. “De La Warr Pavilion, Piazza and Beach” were just as much inspired by the landscape around De La Warr as the building itself. #EastSussexart #photocollage #Bexhill #DeLaWarr

Whilst taking photographs for this artwork, I realised how much alleyways inside roads are an important feature of Battle. So I made sure there were couple of spaces where the viewers can see in between different buildings. #EastSussexart #artworkprocess #BattleAbbey

Title Along the yellow brick path I like the way your eyes quickly drawn towards the art galleries. I find it interesting how each town seems to have its own style and how this makes each place instantly recognisable. #EastSussexart #photocollage #Hastings #Bexhill #Eastbourne

I think the main reason that different floors don’t look completely separated from each other is the way the spiral staircase draws your eyes through the whole “De La Warr Pavilion Staircases” artwork. #photocollage #DeLaWarr #Bexhill #EastSussex

It is interesting how having another look at “Beach. Huts.” it looks like a longer image because a lot of the beach is left empty of objects. Whereas in “Gone Fishing”, because you can see more of the skyline this helps give the impression that the fishing boats are further down the beach.
