I ❤️ paying taxes. Taxes maintain our nation’s infrastructure, contribute to educating the next generation, advancing our health and innovation, and pay for the military to keep us safe. I think more folks need to start celebrating the taxes we pay and the benefits we all receive.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired. It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

To celebrate this gem of a book by @statsteph.bsky.social, @ivelasq3.bsky.social and Rebecca Powell on complex survey data with #RStats and the #tidyverse, we are giving away one copy to a lucky winner. To enter, re-post this and follow me by Nov 24. Not affiliated with bsky.

Book cover of the book 'Exploring complex survey data analysis using R', showing a light blue background with a hand-drawn map showing mountains, houses, roads and the sea.
