There are many people who replied to me in the affirmative.

Literally Obama. It wasn’t a trick question. It wasn’t “Obama as a type”. Literally Obama.

I think you think you asked a question that was coherent but if you’ll read what you wrote, it was just some rhetorical shit dude. You suck.

I haven’t voted for a Republican once in my entire life. But I have witnessed incredible amounts of idiocy and completely incoherent arguments from progressives, and especially on this website.

You do recognize you’re in a thread in which literally every self identified member of the progressive left is talking about how Obama caused Trump and we should never elect another Obama, right?

Like, you have my account history. I buy a lot. I don’t return a lot. I get if you have to do some gating on new accounts, but why do that to long-time customers?

I’m blown away that I have now to chat or have a phone call with a human to return an item for a refund of money

I respect a man who doesn’t deny who he is.

Because the 2016 election was decided on entirely different terms than 2012 (as I said in another thread). But I get that if you’re not particularly intelligent, more complex understandings of the world escape you.

It’s almost like when you have a presidential election every four years, there might be different factors influencing each election.

What about trump’s campaigns or right wing media or interviews with Trump voters provides support for that hypothesis?

That’s absolutely false. Extrapolating from this survey, for example, (centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/...), indicates ~5.7M

Clinton lost the union / non-college-educated white vote to Trump. Go read interviews with them to see why they switched. It wasn’t “Obama wasn’t progressive enough”

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
He won the election? I dunno man, you don’t seem to understand things.

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
And, because of that, the progressive left would prefer a Trump to an Obama. Which, I’ll note, multiple people on the progressive left *have agreed with* after my post.

When did I say race was the only factor in presidential elections? I said it is the factor that brought in a ton of new voters. This isn’t rocket science! You can see it in the numbers! You can literally read interviews either voters who hadn’t voted before!

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
OK now assume that there is a very large number of people in this country who did not vote before Trump was on the ballot who are only animated by his racist rhetoric and these people all voted for Trump. Do you understand how it worked now? Or would it be helpful if I broke it into smaller steps?

What do *you* think it means?

If you think that Obama‘s political decisions led to Trump, you are wish casting so hard

There wasn’t a black president before 2008.

I said nothing about an election. I just pointed out the logical conclusion of everything above my statement in this thread.
100
Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
Share of vote is profoundly unhelpful in understanding this. Trump got shitloads of people to vote who never did before (and hopefully never will again) because he tapped into their latent racism.

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
It took the tea party and gamer gate some time to aggregate the demand and anger, and Mitt Romney sure as shit wasn’t harnessing that effectively. Trump did.

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
Showing someone the logical progression of their statement is not an ad hominem attack, dude
000
Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
My favorite part about arguing with progressives is that they literally cannot engage coherent arguments. Everything goes straight to ad hominem.

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
In case that was actually a question, just electing Trump doesn’t suddenly make all the racist people not racist.
000
Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
How is this even a coherent question? Do you actually think that this is a good question?
200
Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
Trump has three coherent and consistent positions: 1. Tariffs good 2. Me getting rich and staying out of jail good 3. Racism If you think he was elected for anything other than 3… I would recommend working on your critical thinking skills.
200
Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
Because of racism. So you’re basically unwilling to vote for anyone not a white male?

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 13/08/2026
The progressive left would rather have a Trump than an Obama.

My wife, pregnant with our third child, read some insane shit about food dyes and asked her OB (a man substituting for her regular female OB) whether twizzlers were ok to eat, and he responded, “you’re growing a baby; you should lay off the candy”

One of the most fascinating/saddest/stupidest experiences of my life was seeing how an FTC consent order was drafted (by someone who didn’t know what they were doing), and then how even that person didn’t understand what it said. Not surprisingly, it was not effective!

Said another way: if you read him and you think he has nothing useful to say, I think that says a lot more about your inability to question your own expertise and methods than anything about him.

The central problem with his work (IMO) is that he’s a solo dev writing either (a) dev tools or (b) a game, neither of which have nearly as much applicability to the median/mode software dev situation in the world. But he is usefully thought-provoking.

Fascinating to me that basically all of the criticism starts with, “he’s spending $87K/mo”, when anyone with a brain who actually read the piece would realize he has said he’s spending $2400/mo and the $87K number is the Anthropic “token cost” number reported from status.

Joe Emison @joeemison.com · 04/08/2026
I think he’s actually spending $2400/mo and Anthropic reports (e.g., Claude code /status) that it’s “worth” $87K? He says he has 12 $200 Max accounts.
