In school, I learned a good reporter needs to use all 5 senses to tell a story. The one who apparently licked Farage post-shake needs a raise.

I've been neglecting posting here, but here's some catchup from my spring break this week 🐦 #birds #brooklynbirding #MarinePark #ProspectPark #GreenwoodCemetery

Another bird I'm excited to see returning to the northeast US: the black-crowned night heron! I can't decide which crop I like better on this guy; I'm usually disposed to 16x9s but the 4x5 looks great too. #birds #herons #Brooklynbirding #SpringMigration
4x5 photo of a black-crowned night heron. They're barely peaking out into the sunlight from a rotted cavity in a wrecked ship (not shown here). Light brings out the eye's ferocious red as the rest of its body dissolves into shadow.A 16x9 version of the same heron. This one shows less of its body but has more shadow to frame its facial features.

The red-winged blackbirds are back to finally give our local sparrows some company in the tall reeds. #birds #brooklynbirding #MarinePark

I finally got a chance to catch a special visitor in Prospect Park. This normally western-bound rufous hummingbrid defected to the better US coast #birds
A profile view of the immature male rufous hummingbird. Iridescent green-yellow feathers scatter across its back as they're replaced with a the rusty adult plumage.

His wings are pushed forward and his body is almost upright, characteristic of the signature hummingbird flight style.A 1/4 turned view of the rufous hummingbird. Contrasting his almost pure white chest, red-orange begins to creep into the palette of his belly, fitting for the name of the species.

Here, his wings are thrown back in a blur, as he approaches a feeder.Another 1/4 turned view. With this shot I really wanted to show off exceptional speed at which hummingbirds flap their wings.

At 1/500th second shutter speed, his body is sharp and clear, but his wings are a complete blur, forming almost a circle around him.A better shot of the rufous hummingbirds underside, with his head turned upwards. The chaotic patterns we see in nature reveal themselves again in the detail of the hummingbirds throat. His tail is almost fully orange, while the white-tipped feathers created an aesthetic fan.

I've been going through the Nolan Batman trilogy again, and The Dark Night is such a legitimately good film it kind of shocked me, especially after Batman Begins. It's kind of goofy politically, but aesthetically it rocks. Though, it's kinda sad that the worst part is whenever Batman is on screen

This ring-billed gull got all dressed up in its breeding plumage just to go play in the snow. #birds I get so excited when it snows now lmao

I hope I'm not too late for Tiny Tuesday. #birds The smallest bird I saw today, and a lifer! I loved watching this tiny dino hunt on the beach.

I wasn't too happy with how the last orange-crowned picture turned out, mostly due to iso noise, so here's another shot. #birds It has a worse background, but I think it's fun giving small birds this hyperdramatic lighting. Which crop do you like the best?

Common grackles were everywhere in Prospect Park yesterday. They had a gang perched in a tree towards the center of the lake, and were dispatching pairs to different parts of the park. Here's some shots of one visiting the feeders. #birds
