Even the protest movement sacrifices calls for change to make accusations! You never hear 'fire Smotrich and Gvir' because it legitimises Israel, so they get to egg on genocide, while we ignore the icc interim measures and shout 'genocide' rather than actually prevent one. And who pays the price?

Maybe... I don't even have a specific belief in 'that' country. I care more about reducing violence overall. But in *this* country, it is incredibly important to tolerate beliefs. You can't redefine beliefs because you don't like them, in order to legislate against them. It is so dangerous.

Yes, this sorry affair has convinced me of the need to hold solidarity, to protect people's beliefs when they are under attack. I'm not a fan of nationalism. This motion have changed my view. The English should have learned to stop telling minorities that they don't deserve independence by now.

It's a pity. But this stuff has me livid though. Was never that fussed about Zionism. But try to tell me I can't have something... you're creating zionists! I have messages from pro-Palestinians who are shocked at this! Anyway thanks for engaging with me and I hope I didn't write too many posts.

I went to my first PSC meeting in 2005 and got asked if I was Jewish and told that therefore my opinion wasn't irrelevant. Funny parallel experience! We both want to help in our own ways but I don't think we'll agree anytime soon.

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 8h
Doesn't it? It sounds like an expression of Zionism to me. Can you be sure?
000
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 8h
The green view is that one identity is valid and the other isn't. No matter the violence caused in the name of both. It's a terrible view, it won't last, and it leads you into absurd positions like 'we're anti racist' while chanting about where Jews belong.
000
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 8h
Ok well on this I think we have to agree to disagree. The way we see it comes from a different worldview that isn't about the chants but about the way we see the wider issue, so we would just get caught up talking about chants forever.
000
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 8h
Let's be clear, the greens now officially view one of these chants as racist and it isn't the one about ethnic supremacy. Isn't that a bit weird?

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 8h
It isn't to do with how people who share your beliefs identify. It is about how you treat people who don't share your beliefs ie like a vigilante. Even Mothin apologised.
000
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 8h
So the green party will address all of it? As an anti-racist party? And your view of 'The nation of Israel lives' is equal to 'from river to river, Palestine is Arab?

*It literally happened* Your deputy leader hounded a rabbi and his wife out of their home, calling him an animal. Does the policy make that more or less likely to happen again, do we think?

The quote a wise man, the motion's definition is a moo point... "It's like a cow's opinion. Doesn't matter!"
000
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 17h
One green member today: 'If you’d prefer to be with genocidal Labour, maybe just go.' (Liked by Polanski). Members chanting at conference, in the building, 'Zionists not welcome' and 'Palestine is Arab!' ... but sure, people are just kicking up a storm for no reason. Just a perception!

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 17h
Sounds so Israeli! "If only we explained it better! If people understood they would like us!" No. It's the actual thing that is bad. The motion doesn't need explaining. It is there and black and white and it is bad. Plus if needs that much explaining its de facto bad policy.

After the debate, some members, seen in this video, sang 'Palestine is Arab' in celebration. Does @greenparty.org.uk think it a form of racism? It would seem to imply a racial hierarchy from river to sea. Will the party take any action? www.aljazeera.com/video/newsfe...

The UK’s Green Party has voted to define Zionism as a form of racism.

Appreciate your vibe. I'm lonely! Disappointed w/ Jewish orgs, not passionate about Zionism (til now), and equally disappointed with pro-Pal movement etc. Brit-Palestinians like Layla Moran aren't celebrated enough. Standing Together rallies are few in number. Idk when peace went out of fashion!

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
...which is why the movement is so bad for Palestinians in general. It can't ask for specifics from Israel like 'stop arming settlers' 'fire Ben Gvir' etc (in the rare case it has done ie 'provide aid' it succeeded.)
100
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I need to go! But yeah uh I agree? I mean some do criticise, maybe not enough but they do. (No equivalent pressure on Palestinian leadership, why is that!?) The motion does not call for change though, it calls for erasure. Calling for change legitimises Israel so the movement never does that...

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Sorry but that is literally the position of almost every Zionist organisation and Jewish representative body in Britain? Not to mention previous Green party policy supported 2ss and self determination for both peoples, but now only supports one.

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Well, sort of. I think the use of the word itself is a kind of attempt at undoing Israel (ie pretending dinner isn't on the table). Just have a motion against putting cyanide in dinner though, surely. This motion just says 'no dinner unless we make it'. It's a weird analogy lol

The best time to start a new UK party to speak up for nature, the environment and connectedness was yesterday. The next best time is today.
010
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It doesn't! At least I can't see it. Plus it would have to say "this form of a desire for Jewish self-determination is not racist" in order for the definition to be specific, but it doesn't. And if it were so specific, it could have just been a motion against those specific things, surely.

Out of wishing nothing but peace and justice for Palestinians, I would have looked at the solidarity movement's failure to achieve that, in decades, despite huge membership, and perhaps questioned embracing it and adopting its policies in contravention of the majority opinion in every group involved
000
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Anyway, sorry, you didn't finish and I don't want pile on - we both share an interest in peace and justice for that region, and in the planet. I just really think this is a huge error and I'm sad about the damage to the green party under Zack.

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
If it shouldn't be a story then it shouldn't be a motion? It is a story because it's a shocking debasement of the party, one I used to support. Not even that passionate about Zionism but goodness me, I don't go making pronouncements about the yearnings for independence of minorities!
200
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It enables a majority to accuse a minority of being racist for expressing their identity. It does that on a social level, pretty much anywhere, not confined to the green party. It's a silencing.
100
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It is very much the story - maybe not safety but equality. The right to have an opinion about their own identity and how to express it. There is no motion about any other 'ism' - but show me one with a better record?

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
"Zionists aren't welcome here" was chanted after the vote so it is too late for that. The drafters cannot guarantee what they are offering in any case.
010
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Oh do me a favour. The motion says Zionism is racism! It doesn't say "this particular form is and others aren't" which it could have said.

Also bonkers: "Precise language is not merely beneficial, it is essential." Well yes, quite. It goes on: 'The Problem with the term antisemitism' and I can only roll my eyes until the darkness like to the abyss of the ignorance on display here consumes me. (2/2).

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Just some more bonkers things from the motion on the greens4pal website... It cites 'anti-zionism' as a protected belief to justify the right to criticise Israel. If anti-zionism is a protected belief... well then it's kinda obvious that zionism is likely to be one too!? (1/2)

Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Fwiw I've had both Zionists and anti-Zionists say "you're one of us!" and that's another reason the green party can get in the bin. Sorry go on, I do think about other stuff but 1000x ugh.
010
Joe Bond @joebond.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Sian - it's a national political party. The things it does don't just affect members! The motion - a lay interpretation of it - legitimises that targeting for people who are not in your remit, who just want to take things too far. Can you not see the danger of the lack of leadership here?
