Hot take: When Disney ran out of ideas for Episode 9, they should’ve brought back Hayden Christensen reprising as Anakin playing a force ghost for Luke as well as a Sith force ghost for Kylo Ren. The supporting cast might be the movie’s strongest feature: Tim Curry, Joe Don Baker, Mary Ellen Trainor, Stuart Pankin, James Karin, Grant Heslov, and (the standout) Delroy Lindo who slams home runs on every line in his brief appearance. I give the movie 2/5.

Best main is Ernie Hudson. He’s A+ and carries the movie when it needs it. His accent is excellent (as oppose to Tim Curry’s Romanian accent which is funny but a bit too much). Hudson deserved to have a heavier role in the marketing campaign / promotional posters (which are also kind of blah).

Main cast is okay-ish. The lead, Dylan Walsh, was miscast. He does well but the role needs a bigger, more awkward nerd out of their environment. The other main, Laura Linney, I normally don’t like but she out-paces the men here (both in role and acting) and is certainly babelicious in a few scenes.

Amy the gorilla is likable but payed by a human in a gorilla costume. It works *sometimes* but then doesn’t. It’s an issue with camera placement mostly. The directing is awkward and uninteresting (love Frank Marshall tho). It needed darkness with slower pans; in particularly the jungle sequences.

Congo suffers from aging tech and an internet in its infancy (probably something Hollywood now shies away from since they no longer do “current” Sci-Fi movies). Ex: they talk about GPS as if it’s some massive breakthrough in tech but has been commonplace since the early 2000’s; just 5 years later.

Music by Jerry Goldsmith is not bad but not there are no memorable themes and nothing is as epic as I would’ve liked. It’s also hard to live in the shadow of Jurassic Park (which this movie inevitably suffers from).

Notes on Congo (1995) as I have not watched this in a long time: The movie as a whole is rough. Dialogue is blah and there are way too many far-fetched / wild instances (ex: accurately shooting missles down with flare guns from a moving plane, gorillas jumping into a lava pit for no reason).
