Google tells me they’re “rolling back this feature” while they “work on implementing stronger guardrails”
Screenshot:

Hi Joanne,
Please find our statement below, attributable to "a Google spokesperson":
"We know that people uniquely trust Google Earth for a reliable view of the world. We’ve seen geospatial professionals using this feature for a range of useful purposes, however we’ve also seen people sharing screenshots of generated imagery that appear to violate our policies. So we’re rolling back this feature in Google Earth while we work on implementing stronger guardrails. It's important to note that generated images didn’t appear in the main Google Earth experience for others to see and were watermarked as AI generated."
Regarding Lens (also attributable to "a Google spokesperson"): “SynthID detection triggers when users ask Search or Gemini queries like ‘Is this made with AI?’ or ‘Is this AI generated?’ ”
Thank you

Oof. Google told Henk van Ess "if someone is unsure about an image, they can ask the Gemini app or use Lens in Search to see if the image was Al-generated." That works if I upload the original screenshot, but not if I crop out the TEXT THAT SAYS IT'S AI. (Funny with the crop it thinks this is Iran)
Screenshot of Google Images AI mode saying the AI image is AI because of "interface artefacts", literally text that says "experimental" and a "create image button". The button for control prompts is also visible, so Google picks up on that. Screenshot of Google Images AI mode on the altered image, in which I very crappily cut out the text that triggered it last time, and this time AI Mode says it's a satellite image showing destruction of military aircraft in Shiraz, Iran, with no mention that the image was made by Google's own AI.

Dawn shot of the Barbican Estate with one of its towers barely visible through the muddied blue sky. Dust in the air has flattened the horizon for days and blanketed my part of the city in haze.

A riff on the "shelter cats to coyotes" meme:

My neighbor told me AMERICA keep eating his KURDS so I asked how many KURDS he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets a new KURD afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just feeding THE KURDS to AMERICA and then his daughter started crying.

This, sadly, feels like the appropriate ending for Sigar
Email screenshot:

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) will terminate as an agency on January 31, 2026.

As SIGAR continues its pre-planned termination process, the SIGAR website (SIGAR.mil) has ceased to function as an active website.

SIGAR has delivered its final archived version of the website – with all of SIGAR’s public reports and public work products – to the U.S. Government’s “CyberCemetery.”

SIGAR expected the archived version of the SIGAR.mil website would be available online in the CyberCemetery shortly after the active SIGAR.mil website ceased.

As of today’s date, it is not.  SIGAR does not know why UNT Digital Library/CyberCemetery has not yet published it.

US defence contractors write like normal people challenge: impossible
A Lockheed Martin press release about drones, which says the following:

PALMDALE, Calif., Dec. 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) Skunk Works® and XTEND collaborated to integrate the XTEND Operating System (XOS) into Skunk Works' MDCX™ autonomy platform, allowing simultaneous Command and Control (C2) of multiple classes of UAS, creating improved situational awareness for lower-level mission execution in joint all-domain C2 (JADC2) scenarios.

So, Lockheed and XTEND, a Florida-based AI defence company, put a new operating system on a drone.

Screenshot from an Irish Times article with the text:

The drones were spotted by the crew of LÉ William Butler Yeats, which was positioned in Dublin Bay as part of the large scale security operation in place for Mr Zelenskiy’s visit.

The Yeats was unable to take any action regarding the drones aside from observing and reporting their location. It is not equipped with jammers or other countermeasures.

FR also says the flight landed nine minutes later than scheduled, which contradicts Bulgaria's to the FT that the flight circled the airport for an hour before pilots hand to land with paper maps (the phrase is now "analogue maps" in the updated FT report).
Screenshot of flightradar24 X post: We are seeing media reports of GPS interference affecting the plane carrying Ursula von der Leyen to Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Some reports claim that the aircraft was in a holding pattern for 1 hour.

This is what we can deduce from our data.

* The flight was scheduled to take 1 hour and 48 minutes. It took 1 hour and 57 minutes.
* The aircraft's transponder reported good GPS signal quality from take-off to landing.

Indefinite leave to remain is not "automatic". There's a salary threshold, the application costs £3,029 for each person applying, you have to pass a test and, if you're on a Skilled Worker visa like me, your employer needs to verify that they still want you here.
