It was actually Rothko all the way down the block. I was tempted to post a diptych but decided against it!

This is possibly one of the most depressing things I’ve ever read.

I am such a sucker for hand painted signs. I feel they sort of tell a story. This one is on Wood Street. #handpainting #signage #typography #lettering #woodstreet #walthamforest #london

Just finished Greyhound by @joannapocock.bsky.social and find myself wishing there were a chapter on Reno. Perhaps it should be written as a fanfic interpolation. So many complex threads are tangled in this book, to be untangled (or not) by the reader.

Thank you for the kind words. I would love to write a chapter/essay on Reno. I met some amazing people there the only time I visited. Stayed in a 1930s motel on the highway… fascinating place.

Oh, I know. It’s an incredible waste of energy, time, fresh water, etc… which is partly why I find them so unnerving. We’re creating pointless AI farms to send pointless emails in order to justify data centres. It’s all utterly insane.

I get these daily now. It's incredible. They all sound identical. Today's was from the 'Essex Book Festival' (which of course wasn't from the real festival). It is both incredibly tiresome and slightly unnerving.

Yes, I think most of the ones I find fascinating are the fading pre-AI ones when people could have taken decent photos and made their food look appealing but for some unknown reason just didn't.
010
Joanna Pocock @joannapocock.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
But at least these are recognisable 'food' items. When you get these strange close-ups, it stops being food and sort of just looks like matter of some kind. I would love to know wht shopkeepers think it's attractive!

I have an ongoing fascination with the food photography in shop windows in London. It seems to constitute its very own specialised niche of image-making whose sole purpose if instilling desire backfires spectacularly. #photography #foodphotography #london #shopwindows

Yes! Just to the right hand side of the window of the Crama Dracula Wine shop around 224 Leytonstone High Rd. There are lots of ghost signs in and around Leyton, Maryland and Leytonstone. Great idea to do a map.

Shoreditch diptych: on one side the chaotic, random & accidental markings of life in a big city; on the other, the result of hours in a boardroom, massive amounts of money, endless branding exercises and market research. I know which one I prefer. #grafitti #erasure #london #shoreditch #boxpark
