One time I was fishing at Troon harbour casting about 70 yards, one cast I mistimed and the line went through a pack of gulls following a trawler. Snagged a big gull, reeled it in and unravelled it from the line, all the whole time it had its beak gripping my shin bone, was a long 2 or 3 minutes 😂

My gran on my mothers side was mum to 8 daughters and 1 son. I can remember well the graft she put in without any mod cons, her hands were done by the time they all left home,riddled with rheumatism and arthritis and hardly able to lift a cup. Very hard times indeed.
