We are having solar installed this week. It's going well, the guys are pretty easy going, I just try to supply them with cold drinks and coffee. But I'm super surprised how much mental exhaustion it's adding to have ppl in the house all day, and how much I feel ready for Friday Feierabend. huh.

Frankfurt Airport's newish Terminal 3 has installed those security scanners where you don't have to take anything out of your bags anymore and could technically pack liquids up to 2 litres. It's like the future and 1992 having a baby or something. (It's good! This has so far been a smooth morning.)

I am SO glad we decided to fuck off to the in-laws, honestly. I've theoretically been "on vacation" since Monday, but apart from the zoo excursion on Wednesday (with a murder headache all day), everything has been wrangling handymen and arguing with plumbers and stressing about house stuff.

Sorry for screaming two days in a row, but in other news... I PASSED THE JLPT N2!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥹🫠 Results for overseas examinees were live this morning. I said to friends this morning "fourth time's the charm" but it was actually my fifth attempt. 😅 PHEW!

I DID IT! I finished my Zero to 5k program! It was more like 4k - even at my fittest and run-iest I never ran at 10km/h - and I needed more than the listed 9 weeks because of various heatwaves and things. But I am SO PLEASED! And old nemesis, the shin splints, are still nowhere to be seen!

Yesterday looked like the least gross day here in a while, but we were invited to my cousin's birthday party for most of the day. So we decided to take the bikes to my cousin's, for a total of 4.5 hrs of bike riding. Perfect choice, really. (Even though my butt hurt quite a bit by the end. 😅)

We are actually in Paris this weekend, b/c Kame has an event at Japan Expo tomorrow and at time of planning (before all the heatwave stuff) this made sense. But we're making the best of horrid weather - we're sneaking around the streets trying to stay in the shade like a "the ground is lava" game.

One more thing about the JLPT: I really don't need it for anything, I almost entirely sign up for motivation for a study burst (and to a much smaller degree, because it's basically a shared ritual of people torturing themselves with learning Japanese), to improve my Japanese.

The true test of AI: will it be right about whether I passed the JLPT? 😬 I spent wayyyy more time than I care to admit scouring the internet for the leaked answer keys and reconstructed answers, to get an overview of what I remember getting right and what I definitely got wrong.

I missed my planned train home because Strasbourg chose the JLPT weekend for public transport renovation. So I'm on a TGV. Which is reservation only. So I'm in the bar coach. And I spent four hours in an overheated auditorium with no food. So now I'm drunk. (It was just one tiny rosé!!!)
