Anyone saying NL fishermen aren't as handsome as Josh Hartnett don't know any fishermen

And then we found out all the planes were going to land on our little island in the Atlantic. We were so scared. We talk about how we helped, but we were also terrified too. That’s important to remember I think

I was 13 at the time, in school. Someone who had been skipping off at the arcade came back to school and told the teachers what was on tv, and they told us what had happened.

Watching the videos of the planes crashing into the towers feels just as scary now as it did back then. I’m all choked up, my heart hardly feels like it’s beating, and I can’t get a good breath.

Lol trauma informed response as excuse for not contacting victims? Please. Trauma informed response is informing victims but not blaming them, trying to rationalize behaviour, or make excuses for lack of prevention and response to crime

Slop does not refer to criticism or mere dislike. You can use even the most colloquial of definitions for slop and all of them at least minimally refer to volume and machine produced.

Another petition very worth signing. How many times do you see Moneris when you are doing your day to day transactions? If you're like me, it's most times!

“There are very real reasons for people to be concerned about this buildout.” I spoke to @joshwmarcus.bsky.social about why the data center backlash is justified and is going to be a big issue in the US midterms. www.the-independent.com/news/world/a...
“You can try to make an argument that data centers are not really a concern, that people are overreacting, that the tech industry should just go ahead and be able to do what it wants, but when you actually zoom into the growing number of communities that are having experiences with data centers, you can see that is not how things are actually playing out on the ground,” said tech journalist Paris Marx, author of the forthcoming Hyperscale: The Ambition and Excess of Big Tech's Data Empires.

going to make the shameless plug for my book on this exact subject, where i argue that even if data centers were built more sustainably, they would still be fundamentally unsustainable when built at this scale: meaning both the hyperscale size of modern data centers, but also the number being built

That article was in the context of the Come By Chance Oil refinery. Which has never turned a profit and has passed though probably more then five hands since then. Provincial Government has always been on the hook for eventual clean up. Cause, jobs.

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
I read an issue of Oil Week published in the late 80s where they discussed how to convince people that burning natural resources is good, actually. Well, they found their way.

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Now we must allow data centres to burn up our resources for things we don’t even need, like chat bots and AI Facebook slop. Because Canada serves the almighty dollar now. Not the small rural family. Not middle class workers. Not our seniors or our future residents. And also we can’t be mad about it
020
Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
This book, quite plainly says our resources are finite. We are facing increasing demands to meet the needs of PEOPLE. Yet we should seek ways to conserve, for the future. Many of us have found ways to reduce our dependence on natural resources. But now, that doesn’t make companies money

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Right here in print, from the federal government in 1976. Conservation. We even had a department of conservation. What happened? Who are we anymore if we keep bending to demands of capitalists?

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
And how we are treating new comers and minorities? I don’t have a publication to highlight that, but it just doesn’t mesh with my public school education of the 90s.

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Even worse to have my understanding of what Canada is meant to be being challenged. Ignoring drastic changes to the natural world, and going all in on using up and finding more ways to use our natural resources so companies can profit instead of saving them for the future?? How?

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

Oh yeah there will be no problem building, it’s even already serviced with town sewer and water. There was a house there before. It’s also now worth almost twice as much as I paid. I have feelings about ‘owning’ land, but I do need a safe and reliable place to live out the rest of my life.

It doesn’t have any information that would be unknown to most adult people, it’s just written in an accessible way that answers common questions folks might have had at the time. It was distributed by The Telegram inside their paper, in November 1988.

I do own a piece of land to build on, at least. I tried twice for a mortgage on old cheap homes, much cheaper than the rent I had been paying, but the bank says no. I guess they need to make sure those houses are there for mainlanders to have more air bnbs

Jasmine P @jnp709.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
If I ever get my hands on the illusive mortgage I’ll be building my new house with a tin roof. Shag the asphalt shingles

The whole thing needs to be replaced but we aren’t planning on staying here long enough to be worth it. I tried gumming around the chimney and I even went up in the scary attic to see where it’s coming from but I don’t know what I’m Doing
