RIP, Matt Suhey. Former Penn State great's MIL was my next-door neighbor growing up; his wife Donna and my dad graduated HS together. He used to visit annually, so I got to meet him (and Joey) a whole bunch growing up. Matt let me try on his Super Bowl ring. Was always friendly and outgoing.

It's definitely the same tune as the Pitt alma mater, I can tell you that. Wouldn't surprise me if others borrowed it as well.

It's not great if you need to do interviews after the fact to say "oh yeah, Robby didn't keep the baby." All it would take is like a five-minute montage at the end of the last episode showing the characters moving on just a little bit to hint at what's next.

An NFL coach's job is to win football games. A football journalist's job is to cover football impartially. This affair only affects one of those things. It's equally wrong morally from a "cheating on their spouses" standpoint, but from a professional standpoint, it doesn't affect his job.

I feel weird even writing HM D-I recruiting stories sometimes, because the kids won't acknowledge how much NIL factored into their decision. I've never once had a kid say to me "I chose there because it was the best financial decision" even though we all know it's part of (most of?) the deal.

FINAL: La Salle 70, Binghamton 61 Aryss Macktoon 22, Ashleigh Connor 17, and Joanie Quinn 10 points as the Explorers advance to play Army West Point in the "Super 16" of the WNIT. I'm told that game will likely be at West Point, on Wednesday.

110

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

Ashleigh Connor all but seals it for La Salle. It's 70-61 against Binghamton with 16 seconds left, and unless Reggie Miller's long-lost daughter is about to sub in, I think the Explorers are ready to advance in their first playoff game in 34 years.

210

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

Freshman post Amiya Moses making plays down the stretch for La Salle. Hit a 3-pointer, had a big block, then a layup earlier. Just hit two FTs and it's 67-61 with 46.5s left in the fourth.

200

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

Explorers making things happen down the stretch. A couple buckets and then a forced 30-second call and it's 63-59, La Salle ball with 2:30 remaining.

201

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

Still tied up, 59-59 coming out of the final media timeout with 4:24 left.

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

This has been a good one; La Salle and Binghamton tied at 54 with eight minutes remaining in regulation after Lauren Patnode knocked down her third 3-pointer of the day. Aryss Macktoon pacing La Salle with 19 points.

100

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

La Salle up 38-34 at halftime; second half just underway now. Aryss Macktoon (13 points) and Ashleigh Connor (12) leading the way for the Explorers.

FINAL: Upper Dublin 54, Dallastown 33 Emilia Coleman with 17 points to lead the Cardinals to their second state title in eight years. Outstanding season from Morgan Funsten’s bunch.

43-28 UD, 3:12 4Q. Slow going here in the last few minutes.

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 20/03/2026

Upper Dublin is on its way. Cardinals are up 43-27 with 4:40 left. Bridget DiMartile just hit what feels like a dagger 3-pointer.

End 3Q: Upper Dublin 38, Dallastown 25

110

Josh Verlin @jmverlin.bsky.social · 20/03/2026

Upper Dublin up 36-23, 1:29 3Q. DiMartile and Morris have 3s this quarter to help maintain/expand the lead.

Halftime: Upper Dublin 26, Dallastown 16 With UD up five, Emilia Coleman's 3-pointer followed by a steal of the inbounds pass and feed to Tamia Clark for a layup was the most critical five seconds of the game. Coleman's got 11p/3r to lead all scorers.
