Looks like this is some incredibly bad word -> html conversion -- the actual document is downloadable here standards.nhs.uk/published-st... under "Core Information Standard: Release Notes - Updated April 2026" Looks like they've added gender identity and pronouns to replace the old gender field
Table titled “Summary – Information model changes in this release.” It has four columns: Location, Data item, Update, and Detail.

Under “Person demographics,” the data items “Gender” and “Sex” are marked as removed. The detail states that these data items were removed following consultation.

A second “Person demographics” row lists newly added data items: “Sex at birth (observed),” “Administrative gender,” “Gender identity,” “Additional information about gender identity,” and “Pronouns.” The update is shown in blue as “Addition of data item(s).” The details state that “Sex at birth (observed)” is mandatory; “Administrative gender” is a required read-only legacy field for England only, representing data held by the Personal Demographics Service (PDS); and all other new data items are required in the core information standard.
