Yeah, come to think of it, I'm roughly neutral about them. They haven't really made life worse for me, but they aren't really an improvement either. Except the couple of places I've seen that let you pay as you order in the online menu, which makes splitting bills easier.

For me this is one of the big shocks whenever I leave Japan. Going back to the old way every time I visit home or another country outside the region feels like such a step back.

The retro arcades in Japan really are something else. The giant, corporate multi-story ones have started focusing a bit too hard on UFO catchers, so finding a smaller indie one that still focuses on actual arcade games can be kind of a “hidden gem” moment.
