🔬 Using human lymph-node biopsies and spatial imaging, we show that DTG/3TC reaches regions containing or adjacent to HIV-positive cells, while HIV DNA- and RNA-positive cells decline rapidly after treatment initiation. #HIV #HIVResearch #HIVCure #SpatialBiology

HIV-1 Envelope glycoprotein modulates CXCR4 clustering and dynamics on the T cell membrane

Understanding these earliest infection steps opens potential strategies to: • Block viral entry • Prevent infection • Target viral reservoirs

Javier @jmpicado.bsky.social · 16/04/2026
Strikingly, HIV induces a receptor organization that is different from the one triggered by natural signaling molecules. In other words, the virus hijacks cellular organization to infect cells.
110
Javier @jmpicado.bsky.social · 16/04/2026
Using single-molecule imaging, we found that the HIV envelope protein forces the CXCR4 receptor on T cells to cluster in specific patterns. These clusters appear to make viral entry more efficient.

Javier @jmpicado.bsky.social · 16/04/2026
Now we explore how another viral coreceptor, CXCR4, interacts at the nanoscale level with HIV-1, revealing that HIV does not simply bind to immune cells — it actively reorganizes them.
