Hmm, Alaska looks…interesting? Though the boroughs and census-designated-districts in lieu of counties can be confusing!

I was literally ranting about this last night! The Alaska Native Language Archive just has….30+ files per record and I downloaded them all….it didn’t work.

Outside major metropolitan areas (with the associate 9-5) most folks…do what they like for sleep schedules, which tend to shift later in the day. It’s disconcerting though, the first time you wake up in the middle of the night and it’s actually dark outside!

I grew up in AK, and it’s kind of something you get used to? My mom can fall asleep in broad daylight, and I personally prefer the light + darkness - to everything there is a season! We have one blackout curtain in our room, but a smaller window filters in some light and that works for us.

That reminds me of these cool Inuit maps of the coastline of Greenland (from a museum exhibit in Anchorage, 2019)
2 Wooden maps around 6” high and 1-3” wide, with curves and valleys representing coastline.Text from museum display:

The Coastline Near Tasiilaq, Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland)
Compare this modern map of the coastline between Kangertittivatsiaq and Sermiligaaq with Kunit's carved maps. The coast is represented using both sides of the wooden maps, which are sometimes referred to as the
"Ammassalik Wooden Maps."

Jody Potts, a dog sledder, is riding on her sled down 4th avenue - it is snowing and lots of snow is piled everywhere. The huskies are wearing beaded dog blankets.
