Putting the "So?!?" back into philosophy ('00). Leftist-ish homunculus (est. '77). Marx: right diagnosis, wrong treatment. Language & science are outside my expertise but inside my dilettantery. Yes, that's a word—ask Wittgenstein about meaning as use.

I don't support upper age limits for federal office. I do, however, support term limits. When it comes to being out of touch with the experience of constituents, I feel like incumbency is more salient than when you were born.

I'm taking a contrarian view here and saying that this is El-Sayed's worst public performance thus far in his campaign. He leaned too far into being a fighter, and it made him look petty. El-Sayed was really only helped by Rogers looking even more petty and like poseur.

Navi Pillay is my new favorite person. "If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump." Whaaaaa?!?!?! 🤣😆 This comes after stating that as a judge and lawyer she needs more evidence that she indeed won the Nobel Peace Prize. www.bbc.com/news/live/ck...

Nobel Peace Prize live: Navi Pillay wins for 'efforts to promote peace and international law'
Some 287 candidates have been nominated for the prestigious prize, which was won last year by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Elon Musk is neither "truly elite" and the role he filled in the American market at the beginning of his rise to wealth could have been filled by any non-immigrant. So not really an answer, is it?

If he thinks wearing Jimothy as a cap is going to rally Republicans to the polls in November— Wait, that might actually work with Republicans. But the rest of Texas sure won't like it!

And that building a relationship with your child or, looking at what shapes mouth makes when pronouncing words, or the shape your face makes when conveying emotions. You know, stuff not currently (and possibly not ever) replicable by AI? Are parents like Alvin why schols are in a literacy crisis?

AI solipsism: the notion that all problems have a clearly efficient and optimizeable solution, and that solution can only be achieved through the use of AI systems. Here, Alvin assumes that the optimization of training a voice model provides all the requirements of language learning.

I support the suit, and Trump's advertising seems to meet the definition of propaganda. But, I am concerned that the DNC is up to its eyeballs in debt and am worried Dems may be literally mortgaging future candidates' ability to run. Can they afford this?

I see we've moved from "concepts of a plan" to a murky notion of a promise to invest a total of 68% of the current US GDP over the next ... indeterminant amount of time? Gee, could he vague that up a little more?

It should be noted that Green-Placentia's opponent has posted social media in support of Andrew and Tristan Tate. Not trying to imply any involvement by Hamadeh. But he's certainly willing to leverage the Tate Bros for political capital in an R +8 district. www.azcentral.com/story/news/p...

The problem is essentially the same everywhere. It's more acute in Spain. There's just not enough housing to meet demand. And the proposals offered by Sánchez are tantamount to a band aid on an amputation. Maybe building more housing and forcing private equity out of real estate markets?

I think it's OK to not express political opinions; to be honest about not politically opining because it might affect your marketability as an actor; even to not want to participate in toxic political discourse. But, others get to shape your image without your input. Accurately or inaccurately.

Sure, no hiring manager is perfect. But Noem and Hegseth's confirmation hearings were partisan shitshows. And his aw shucks while trying to sell a book is ludicrous. F**king grifter.

The only people who don't know that the terrorism rationale is a pretense is whoever is still left in the Trump coalition. And if the polling is to be believed, only the Christian nationalists remain. Which are basically Russians who don't say 'tovarich'. And that's *not* a coincidence.

Say what you will about the French. They're persnickety if you say "bonjour" when you should "bonsoir". They're surrender monkeys. They force feed geese to get patê. And sure, some of those things are bad. But they care about their education. I don't see American students with this much concern.

Ah yes, the Ayn Rand/Friedrich Nietzsche pipeline from nuanced discourse about the complex relationship between the individual and society to overly technocratic "efficiency" based solely on the whims of a "benevolent" dictator. Because no "benevolent" autocracy in history has *ever* failed. 🤮

Is he trying to portmanteau 'gay' and 'vegan' into a Southern accented mockery of James Talarico's voice? Or is he just having a moment of word-salad aphasia brought on by a blood vessel bursting on stage?

I think the answer's pretty obvious. Robots in the mines and oil would be much more expensive to produce and maintain than to underpay labor to assume all the physical risk of mining and extracting oil. It's inverse with AI and the white collar sector. Even with AI's penchant for hallucinations.

Harris Faulkner would be promulgating mis- and disinformation right now if her employer didn't just settle their Dominion libel suit for $800 million, rather than have a jury award them potentially billions. Me, personally, I'd rather be mad at this than troll contrite Trump voters. BYDYB.

So, which is it Trump? Is it that a sufficiently skilled bad actor could electronically manipulate votes without detection? Because if that's the case, why aren't you pointing that out to Brazil, err "India" now? Or are you waiting to unleash that flavor of skepticism for if Lula wins?
000
Michael Joneas @jmikegra.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
OK so everyone but Trump realizes that India ≠ Brazil. But I do remember Trump bitching not only about electronic tabulating software, but also electronic balloting as being inherently unreliable and completely vulnerable to manipulation. And guess what all of Brazil's voting is? Electronic.

Nobody truly believes that U.S. reactionary fascism is unique. A cursory read of a high-school history text usually dispels that delusion. The point is that people are too busy treading choppy economic waters, and doing the bare minimum self-care that entails, to do anything *but* hand-wring.

So, carpet bombing a country with the means to construct a nuke which *you* previously said was impossible due to previous military action, now, somehow, makes it *more* likely that Iran will use nukes and that's somehow worth the higher gas prices ad infinitum? Fucking carousel logic with the GOP.

I don't think he's wrong about saying that ethics reform is important. I do think that if something has a high risk of dying in the Senate is the reason not to pursue impeachment, then the same rationale applies to ethics reform.

It's weird because I feel like Ossoff tossed the media a slow pitch on Natalie Harp, and they bunted it while calling it a grand slam.
000
Michael Joneas @jmikegra.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
OK, so, where's the actual discourse about that? I'm sure it exists somewhere in the media ecosystem, but it seems to be taking a back seat to the more salacious speculations on the nature of the Trump/Harp relationship.

Not counting family members, we meet 2, maybe 3, other hockey players who have fairly anodyne interactions with Ilya and Shane. Oh, and then there's Ilya's girlfriend/beard/fiancée and it's like they set-up the audience for the whole "bi now, gay later" trope. Which, 🤮.
100
Michael Joneas @jmikegra.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I *think* they're going for a love-at-first-sight angle with Ilya and Shane, but I'm not buying it. And if you're going for the internalized homophobia as a hinderance to true love route, you've got start with the externals. You got the parents' contribution but not the league's, not the teammates'.

Michael Joneas @jmikegra.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
But, I feel there are some clear pacing issues. The protagonists' entire first hockey season is in the first episode. ?!?! The story goes hard on the sex but then pulls back at Rosanov's and Hollander's relationships with their respective families and how that plays out in their tryst.

So, I'm finally got through the first episode of Heated Rivalry. (I've noped out 10x) So far, I'm not liking it. I don't think it's particularly groundbreaking to explore the landscape of homophobia in sports interspliced with very hot men in graphic sex scenes. Which, to be fair, are pretty hot.

SCOTUS size has changed at multiple points in history, so I fail to see it as a means of intimidation, at least from an originalist position. That said, if he does retire, or something else happens, I expect the Dems to stall the nomination for his replacement. Turnabout is fair play.

There is such a thing as intellectual hubris. And ego-syntonic personality disorders. And the Dunning-Kruger effect. And epistemic luck. And it's possible that all of these converged on one person. But, Occam's razor dictates he's a f**king moron. But what does William of Ockham know?

Yeah, I watched a couple of on-the-street interviews of Brazilians in Rio and São Paulo and 3/4 said none of the above for Bolsonaro Jr. and Lula. If you don't think a Trump Jr./Kushner 2028 or 2032 GOP ticket is possible, you really need your algorithm to be cleansed with sage or exorcised.

So you're telling me that Congress was outplayed in their own book-cooking scheme invented to make it look like they were doing something about healthcare costs while complying with their self-imposed PAYGO rules in a buy, borrow, die style operation ... by Trump? Sadly, that makes complete sense.

Everything here is objectively false. Inflation isn't under control. Trump couldn't possibly explain economic victories he hasn't achieved. And we have one of the least successful economies in the history of our country.
