Fire their fuckin' asses. It's simple. Actually, the real solution is simpler still. Day One, publish a list with every ICE/CBP officer's name and address. They'll never show up for work again.

Off the top of my head, Bednarik is his main competition.

Was a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer like five years ago, let alone now.

The best thing about the Pats' win is that it will shut people here the fuck up about Drake Maye for at least a week. Maye was hardly perfect, but he made plays, lots and lots of them. Big plays often are accompanied by big errors, too. Ask Josh Allen.

Stay close to the Buffalo Bills and there's a 90 percent chance you'll beat them, a chance the Patriots grabbed today. Easier said than done, but in the Josh Allen era, the Bills' defense is sort of anti-clutch. They'll make the playoffs again and be eliminated on the game's last play again.

I am not sure I have ever seen a runner trying for third thrown out by that much. And I covered the '80s and '90s Red Sox for a living!

Haven't seen a runner at third out by that much since the days in the late '70s-early '80s when Yaz still thought he was in his 20s.

Not to be a downer, but there will surely not be enough votes in the Senate to convict any member of the administration. Doesn't mean impeachments shouldn't happen. They make for subpoenas and evidentiary hearings that can't be flouted the way oversight hearings will be.

They lost to the Jets that year. 20-17 in OT. The Jets!

When the greens are still competing with the reds and yellows is when Boston and environs are most beautiful. In other words, right now in early October.

I wish the Phillies-Braves game had been this afternoon instead of tonight. I have a busy day tomorrow. But I'll watch, and whatever the outcome, I'll be at peace. If the Phils lose, I'll be sad, but not angry or frustrated. Hard to be mad at a team that did what they did in game two.

I covered the NFL in the '80s and '90s. I wrote plenty of pieces like this before Super Bowls. "This time, the AFC team has a real chance." No, it didn't, but if a contest isn't close, people stop reading about it, or tuning into TV about it. That's CNN's institutional bias here. Don't turn us off.

The playoffs distill baseball's cruelty to 100 proof. What were problems in July are crises now. See Phillies bullpen, Red Sox offense, and Cubs pitching in general as evidence.

Assuming he is pardoned, what will Hegseth do without military supplied bodyguards when he leaves office? He has enemies with a lot more ways to get even than the congressional Democrats or the ICC.

You are absolutely right about that. My autumn way is to give it a rub of salt, pepper, and sage, then roast it over a bed of apples, onions, and cubed butternut squash, also seasoned with sage. Precook the squash for 4 or 5 minutes in the microwave or they'll take forever to get soft.

The teams that had to go down to the wire to qualify such as the Phils and Astros had to burn their aces over the weekend. Expanded playoffs mean more close races to make them, and more toasted pitching staffs when they get there.

Attended football game at 50th reunion of my country day school grad class. Was all-white when I was there, now more than a few Asian and black students. I'm happy to say their parents in the stands were as preppy as those of the white players.

The Phillies won and will make the playoffs after all. The celebration on the mound after the final out was said to be "fairly muted" by ESPN. There was a group hug, but the facial expressions of the "winners" was less "yippee!" and more "hey we might get to leave ballpark alive."

The Patriots never got their asses kicked for 60 minutes last year. The Jaguars did just that this afternoon. Drake Maye had his ass kicked the furthest and highest, but none of his teammates escaped a solid boot, either.

I covered a BC-Temple game at the Vet in 1997. Temple won, their first Big East win in like four years. The fans tried to tear down a goalpost. There weren't enough of them to budge it.

I'm in my mid-70s. I've probably lived in a bubble since 1983 or so. I'm aware of that and don't care. I can't keep up with sports AND music in 2026. Too much data. So I chose sports.

Polls in September are hardly definitive data. But they have more validity than feels, which seem to guide your assessment. Mind you, your feels could be right, but there's a shit ton of poll data stacked up against them.

This one is the sputtering out of a very good team that couldn't get over the top and got too old and too toploaded to do more. Funny how decades later the inevitable result of age hurts more than the trauma of an unexpected if not unpredictable end.

The collapse of the '64 Phillies remains one of my main life traumas. But before long (youth is resilient) I realized a team playing way over its head hit the wall. Reality had reasserted itself in an awful manner. The collapse of the 2026 Phillies is a little different.

It's why football is the sports talk media sport. An afternoon hot take about baseball can be rendered foolish by one pitch that night, but it takes a week before events can make an ass of commentator in the NFL

I have to think that the one thing that would drive GOP turnout up in those states is seeing a surge of black voters. IMO it's one or the other, but not both in terms of Dem surge/GOP falloff.

Every time I take a cab or Uber past the junction of Flatbush and Atlantic, I think how the streets were laid out when there were maybe 12 motorcars in all Brooklyn, and even then it was stupid design. What did horse gridlock look like?

I cannot believe Trump's handlers would let him appear live in front of a mob of drunk college kids, even if they are from Tennessee. Remember Cruz in Austin? Might be the same deal. Now, a pretaped interview might happen, I grant you.

Best athlete my kids' high school (Lexington, MA) has produced in their lifetimes was a State Player of the Year as a QB as a senior. Played hockey and baseball, too. Sal Frelick plays right field for the Brewers. Guys who reach the pros in one sport tend to dominate any youth sport they try.

The Steelers are not the worst team in the NFL. But after two games, one a win, and today's loss to the Pats, it is clear they are the league's most unwatchable team by a wide margin. Just the most tedious football imaginable.

So my email gets a daily blast from some outfit called Homes.com. Hey, ads are a part of life, I get it. But for reasons I cannot begin to understand, this week they've been saying they have just the homes for me on Staten Island. A glitch or to in the old algorithm.

I would accept that as an explanation for 2016 votes, but not last time. There was a record of Trump's performance in office, one that led voters to chuck him out in 2020. No excuse for 2024. Too many folks see their vote as a means of self-expression rather than hiring some one for a job.

The problem is that the truth, "voters, you fucked up bad, and that's why this is happening" is not something that said voters will ever accept. We have a frivolous, irresponsible citizenry, and that's a democracy killer no matter what.
