So terrifying! A 3 minute ride from my safe low crime neighborhood! This man walking wished me a good day, I almost had to pull out my vast collection of knives. That’s just EDC life though

there are some morning Greyhound bus options that will take you to Detroit, so you can sort of make your own connection. But it’s a bit inconvenient compared to the previous option, and not sure what it looks like for other bus destinations that aren’t Detroit (AA, EL)

Amtrak now only sells the return with a Wolverine connection in Chicago, taking 12 hours you didn’t have spend heading all the way west previously. There’s also a bonkers 37 hour option with a 22 hour!! layover in Toledo, to the 6:30a connecting bus you used to be able to take before.
Amtrak booking screen for a typical trip from Washington DC to Detroit, showing two trips taking 26 and 37 hours respectively.

update: we're about to "look good" in (a fork of) Rack Finder
screenshot of Rack Finder, showing downtown Detroit and Windsor on a map. bike parking locations are shown as clusters with summed capacity numbers as labels.

Jimmy McBroom @jmcbroom.det.city · 11/01/2026
detroit also "looks bad" in Rack Finder because windsor mappers are creating a node for each individual rack, whereas we're using the `capacity` tag, and Rack Finder is clustering the individual points without considering the `capacity` of each OSM node

my main problem with the "looks cool" criteria is that it's led us to installing "racks" like these.
bike "racks" that can only accomodate one bicycle.

DTE bill this month (first full billing cycle w/ solar) went slightly negative on electricity.. consumed $48.47 of electricity (w/ fees etc) but sold back $49.99 leaving me with a small future credit. then $10.37 of gas fees + insight bridge fee leaves me at $11.06 for the month.

Bus schedules are a big concern with employess as far as arriving on time. Overnight staff do not have access to public transportation as the busses do not always run overnight. Food can be expensive in the venues and overnight staff have no options. Ms. Parker asked if Jeremy had any suggestions or ideas on parking or if anyone has contacted the city, Jeremy stated he does not and has not. He did suggest the board do research on other markets to see how they handle these issues. He mentioned how markets such as Washighton DC, New York and Chicago have subways or metro systems providing rapid transportation throughout city and subburbs. Detroit does not

if the @cityofdetroit.bsky.social police department is going to harass cyclists who are not riding in the bike lane, perhaps they could avoid parking there. just a thought!
