It was a beautiful, if not quite autumnal, day to drop off my primary ballot.
A red, white, and blue banner directs voters to a box where they can drop off their primary ballots. Text on the banner reads “vote here.”

Today I joined the National Association of Memoir Writers with thoughts of adding a family history layer to my editorial business. I'm looking forward to learning more. But in the meantime, I'm thinking of this family getting ready for a camping trip around 1934. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory
Two toddler girls sit by the door of their family car around 1934. Their father is securing tents and other camping equipment to the roof and back of the car.

I have a wonderful memory of the time my mother called just to tell me she saw an indigo bunting at her bird feeder. I'm looking forward to reading this for a nonfiction book group next month. #birds #birdwatching
Cover of The Backyard Bird Chronicles, written an illustrated by Amy Tan. Foreword by David Allen Sibley. It shows four drawings of birds on branches. The birds are generally brown and green. The book has a tan background.

This little sign in the #Massachusetts #Berkshires made me smile.
Sign in a window shows a purple butterfly. The text reads "We, the Berkshires, stand with immigrants."

The Campanile in Springfield, Massachusetts, is one of my favorite buildings. On Saturday, I was pleased to gather nearby with other No Kings folks. It's the same place my Mom and her family joined with neighbors to celebrate the end of World War II.
The Campanile in Springfield, MA. It is a tall stone clock tower with two balconies and a bell tower on top. It is shown in March 2026 against a vivid blue sky.

Looking at it again, I think I should clarify. It has a copyright date of 1968, and the second edition is listed as 1968, but there is a note that says the 4th impression (printing, perhaps?) was in 1973. Still quite an artifact though!
Cover of the 1968 book Esperanto by John Cresswell & John Hartley. It is mostly orange with a blue strip at the top with the words "Teach Yourself Books." At the bottom is "A complete course for beginners and students." The book is quite worn and held together with tape.

I just learned that 2026 is the National Year of Reading in the UK! Now that is an initiative this American will happily join. 😊📚📰 These are the books that have been surrounding my reading chair for the past few weeks. What's in your to-read pile?
Three books are leaning against a green and black afghan on a tan couch. The titles and authors are: The Body by Bill Bryson, The Swedish Art of Aging Exuberantly by Margareta Magnusson, and Unabridged by Stefan Fatsis.

This was today's item in my #Beatles advent calendar. "I am half of the eggman with webbed feet"?
Plastic toy. The bottom half of an eggshell has yellow plastic feet attached.

My parents were saving for a house their first Christmas as newlyweds, so they made their own ornaments using construction paper and stickers. I thought these were long gone, but I discovered one in a Christmas decoration "box of yore." It was a happy surprise. #FamilyHistory
Round Christmas ornament made from construction paper. One side has a Christmas tree sticker. On the other, there is a sticker of angel carolers.

I took a Halloween morning #stetwalk with an old friend before the clouds rolled back in over western Massachusetts.

Today is #DictionaryDay, so I celebrate by sharing my treasured Webster's New International from 1925, when "television" wasn't an entry yet and telephones looked strikingly different. I'm told my grandmother worked for @merriam-webster.com in Springfield, MA the '20s. Not sure what she did there.

Listening to "All Together Now" on the Yellow Submarine album reminded me of a common mix-up: ✅ “Altogether” means “entirely” or "overall." ✅“All together” means “as a group.” What other grammatical mix-ups do you encounter? And what’s your favorite Beatles song? #Grammar #Beatles

It’s been a long while since I made delicata squash. Love these fall recipes.
Cut delicata squash pieces tossed with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

I’m using my old Crock Pot for the first time in years. With any luck, I’ll have a batch of steel cut oats to enjoy with fruit and walnuts all week. #CrockPot #SlowCooker
