I am pretty sure I tried this exactly as directed, and my friend said “What? Let me see that”, so I punched him, and that was definitely one of the top five Getting in Troubles of my childhood.

Protest report: ICE out of NYC
Last Friday I attended my first protest march in a while. It responded to how ICE shot Oscar Belgal, my fellow New Yorker, last week as he tried to flee a pack of armed goons in street clothes trying to break into his car to grab him and his 5-year-old son. (The goons would be ICE, I’m describing ICE.)

Ran into this at Astor Place. They were selling lucky knot kits in a diy vending machine. The artist was raising money for something, but I figure what it was 💀. My lucky knot was blue! It was IMMEDIATELY added to the fantasy football shrine. God, I love these […] [Original post on masto.nyc]

Anyway! This was also my first time walking down the anarchic bazaar of Canal Street, unplanned, and it was delightful. A person walking ahead of me suddenly shrieked with surprise, stopping to snap up a faux-gucci purse from a blanket. “You like that one? I give you a good deal!” said the […]

I guess continuing to avoid photographing faces anyway is kinda like wearing an N-95 mask today, but for your camera, and I mean that kindly.

I find myself still following the advice I learned at the top of last year about avoiding photographing any marcher’s face, coz it feels right, but buddy… I dunno how the protests work where you’re from but out here the marcher’s own organizers will absolutely stand up next to each speaker or […]

This protest was, unsurprisingly, much more emotionally intense and full of negative energy than any of the protests I’ve marched in since last year. I don’t mean “negative” as in “bad”, you understand. It was appropriate to the context. But it was absolutely an angry march, not a proud one. The […]

I’m on my way to join a protest against Miller’s goons gunning down my neighbors in the street, and then I’m going to drop off a busted PlayStation controller for repair at the local indie game shop if I’m gonna be below Midtown anyway, because New York has every kind of energy and I let it all […]

It’s kinda funny how Mamdani’s famous print campaign material all focused on his first name, which exactly nobody uses in public discussion, outside of NY Post headline writers. Acorn is an indie image editor by Flying Meat. It replaces Pixelmator for me, which I bought long ago, pre-Acorn, and rode until it stopped working. (Just now.) Flying meat made VoodooPad back in the day, a kind of personal-wiki app that was my core digital notebook from around 2004 through […]

How do you say out loud the “[One brand] X [Another brand]” thing? Do you just say “X”? “Crossed with”? “Collab”, but as a postfix? (Not looking for “I don’t” as an answer, I already have that one.)

“We cannot leave if you hold the train doors open!” Yes correct I assume that is why the anonymous ne’er-do-wells in the front cars are doing it so I dunno if this kind of scolding is effective discouragement. Jmac coming at you with a little real talk from the rear cars. #NYC

I appear to be sliding into practical #TTRPG speak where I happily call any kind of game “D&D”—especially if I’m telling a non-player what my afternoon plans are, or the like—but if I’m *specifically* playing literal Dungeons and Dragons™, then I call it “5E”.
