Can’t seem to find my copy right now, but “Princess Smartypants” is a huge favorite. She just wants to live in her tower with her books and her pets, and not marry some stupid prince. So she makes that happen.

One of my proudest accomplishments was when I peeled an orange entirely with my left hand (i’m right handed) after I broke my right wrist. It took me approximately one million hours, but I did it.

Maybe not weird on the scale of those two, but these are about a tame crow who successfully raises a human baby to teenager during a zombie apocalypse. I thought they had a somewhat more interesting take on zombie evolution than most.

Years ago I was an office temp, I heard a woman ask another woman if she knew about the microfiche, and she said “no, I was never very good at biology.” OMG like they were tiny fish!! I tell you, the amount of effort it took to keep from bursting out laughing. I nearly died on the spot. 🐠🐟🐠🐠🐟🐟🐠🐟🐠

Reading chair with new raven lamp
Olive green upholstered chair & ottoman, with a fluffy grey blanket and pillow with a dog driving a race car. Left of the chair is a white elephant table with a stack of books on top. An oak file cabinet to the right. Above is a large framed pen & ink illustration of Don Quixote tilting at windmills, and a wall lamp that is a black raven with a light bulb on a cord dangling from its beak

When I was a field ecologist, I once had a guy ask “what’s that bird that is black with a yellow head?” He did not find it amusing at all when I responded, “umm it’s a Yellow-headed Blackbird .”

When I worked at a wildlife rehab clinic, I successfully caught foxes using both of those methods. I realize foxes are not cats, and they were already injured (that’s why I was catching them), but I didn’t cause them any additional harm.

Trees are the best 🌳🌲🌴🌲🌳🌲🌴🌳
had far too many rules. You couldn't hear the crickets, you couldn't see half the stars, and the trees were being chopped down to make way for more houses and shops. "Why," Tanuki grumbled, "would they fell trees but leave men standing? Trees are a damn sight more useful than people, and everything in the world knows that except people."
Maybe he had a point. Trees do generate oxygen; men justbreathe it up, stink it up, and generally misuse it. Trees hold the soil in place, men are constantly displacing it. Trees provide shelter and protection to countless species, men threaten the existence of those species. When in sufficient number, trees regulate atmospheric temperatures, men endanger the planet by knocking those regulations askew. You can't rest in the shade of a human, not even a roly-poly one; and isn't it refreshing that trees can undergo periodic change without having a nervous breakdown over it? And which has more dignity—the calmer spiritual presence a tree or a typical Homo sapiens? Best of all, perhaps, what maple or cypress ever tried to sell you something you didn't want?
