i listened to 100 albums this year and here they are on a topster

the way it opens is so perfect. the image of mount vesuvius erupting and swallowing the people of pompeii is compared to a barbecue! meanwhile the instrumental is this off kilter mix of dark alien synths and uneven drumbeat. The way it all comes together for the second verse is NUTS too. damn.

recently stumbled onto the DOOM project "Bookhead" and damn is it cool. the instrumentals are a lot more sinister than what you'd get on a usual DOOM record. the track "Guv'nor" has to be one of his most dark and political raps describing the way that humanity eats itself through class warfare.

there's an oddly large amount of times that MF DOOM has used the phrase: "S curl" in his songs. i wonder if it's just a good phrase to build rhymes out of.

i've been doing a fun playlist share with my sisters and mom every month. combined with all the new music i've checked out this year, i feel pretty good about the way most of them turned out. I think i'll start sharing them on here.

most traumatizing moment from caves of qud so far was when a hostile esper trapped both me and my pet puma in separate forcefields and made me watch as he eviscerated my partner with flames summoned from his mind 😔

started playing caves of qud and it's giving me the good brain itch. "the venerable bop cheek" is the exact sort of thing i wanna be looking for.

i think a lot about fantasy worms. there's just something about an ancient, powerful, and mystical creature that is feared by entire cultures and civilizations, but is actually just a self-propelled tube that makes me happy.

it's the spoon of shame. it reminds me of my own eventual demise. i can't look at it long enough to comprehend the symbolism. also i'm too lazy to do anything about it

i was lucky to have a hand-me-down. i spent the summers of my youth playing fallout new vegas and listening to 311 on that bad boy 🤙

recently discovered the song "christmas tree" by lady gaga and i gotta say it makes decorating the ol douglas fir with family 100% funnier

really surprised by this record. maybe it was just the cover but i did not expect such a high quality electronic prog punk project. monarch of monsters by vylet pony. hell of a ride front to back.

MF JOOM @jlowlight.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

agreed. it's like getting something off your chest. sad transference magic.

spirit box by flying lotus has been a go to record for my drives between work and back. beautiful, warm electronic music to ease me out of my morning stupor. i need to check out more albums by them.

i love the interviews at the end of the 20th anniversary edition of MM..FOOD. MF DOOM comes off as such a down to earth dude. when told he was embraced by both fans and artists he sounded so genuinely taken aback and happy.

i like how apple replay included a month by month breakdown in their analysis. it's cool to go back and be like "oh yeah february. that's when I was super depressed and listened to the Smiths for 2,384 minutes!"

i'm about to finish my 100 album challenge for this year. it's been great keeping up on new music for once. makes me feel CONNECTED, ya know. i think i'll make it a yearly practice.

I don't know what you learned in English class but who, what, when, where, why and how are so important and versatile when asking questions for the media you ingest and interpret. Examples being who is this for? What feeling does this stir? Why was it written in this tone? Who benefits from this?etc

more musical artists need non-sequitur sections in their albums like poo-putt platter through fig leaf bi-carbonate on MF DOOM's MM..FOOD. every time i hear that part of the record i'm just so floored by how creative it is.

Arcane is so much better than a League Of Legends TV show has any right to be. Probably the most visually stunning animation series of all time.

A picture of a cereal box and bowl of cereal with MF DOOM on the cover and a small figurine of DOOM holding a spoon that is much larger than him
