Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 16hPlaying two new games today! Ace Combat 8 is exactly what I wanted, and the Star Wars racing game is intense arcade fun, the best since the last Wipeout and Burnout 3. 100
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Sheesh, caught up with DIE: Loaded 5-7 and The Power Fantasy 16 and let’s just say Gillen’s fans know better than to get attached to their favorite characters, but man! It’s a lot. A lot of emotion packed in these beautiful pages. #comicsky @kierongillen.bsky.social @imagecomics.com 020

Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Life is a lot right now, but last night I made amazing bruschetta with anchovy butter and tonight I get to eat the leftovers 030
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 06/08/20262026, that is. Been a very quiet year for roleplaying for life reasons 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 06/08/2026My first #ttrpg of 2025 was a game of HYBAGG over Discord DMs. We became a singularity and ate a moon. Loved it, playing again! 240

Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Love it, great animation! What product is this? I have a need for more miniature mecha 110
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 30/07/2026This is a very pleasing piece. Useful as scatter, beautiful to look at ❤️ 030
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 29/07/2026First impressions of the first #Daggerheart expansion, Hope & Fear: exceeds all expectations. Ridiculous production values, Wizards has nothing comparable. All the new options sound fun, and the new campaign frames deliver on imagination and fun, new mechanics. Will definitely run this. #ttrpg 180
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Odyssey time. First time I’m going to the movies in the morning, I think, but I had to see this in the first week 000
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/07/2026It feels decidedly wrong to be playing Halo on PlayStation. 000
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 12/07/2026I read The Fall of Hyperion (Dan Simmons, 1990). That was a very satisfying follow up to the original, building on it substantially, while leaving plenty to be discovered later. The ending has somewhat worrying time fuckery, but I’m excited to see if Simmons can hold it together. 020
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Now there’s a book! The Song of Achilles is the more likely to be adopted though, I feel... I’d take that, too! I thought I didn’t care for Greek mythology until I discovered Miller. Also: I can totally hear you scoring either. 120
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 06/07/2026Holy shit. Hoping this puts them on a sustainable trajectory. I’m happy they’re doing right by the studios they’re divesting from. 000
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 03/07/2026Also this outfit would’ve benefitted from sunglasses regardless of if they’re warranted for not. Regrets 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 03/07/2026Works every time: leave the house without sunglasses and what do you know, the first full blast of the day hits you in five minutes 220
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 28/06/2026Uhh yes please. Been binging Marathon and starting to miss TTRPGs after a half year break 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 28/06/2026This looks dope. Unsure if I can fit it anywhere as I hope to start a long Delta Green game after I wrap Masks, but looking forward to at least reading this! 020

Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 11/06/2026Seeing a divorce lawyer with your ex is a hell of a thing. Never thought I’d find myself at that table. We’re as amicable as can be, but damn it felt real. 280
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 08/06/2026I’m a straight cishet guy in my late 40s. Today I’ve had a great time buying makeup and getting tips from the staff on how to apply it, shopped for accessories, and cried to Taylor’s Long Live (Eras live). Don’t let your idea of masculinity stop you from living. 1141
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 04/06/2026I started Metal Gear Solid 1 last night. Got a game over like fifteen times in the first area. Yes I’ve played it previously, but man stealth games are more forgiving these days 020
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Divorcing after 25 years is as big of a deal as I thought it would be. Also big, and something I don’t really understand yet: being single makes me feel separated and excluded from the world of pairs and families. Like I took a side step into a slightly skewed reality. 060
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 03/06/2026I don’t think there’s a living artist who’s had a bigger influence on me than John Blanche. What a legend. 071
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Social media for me is IG, this (Bluesky), and Threads. I feel Threads is going through the lifecycle of a social media in fast forward. I already feel like I’m going to be dropping it in a year. For now my well curated feed works well to entertain, but there’s more and more bad actors at the door. 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 30/05/2026I did not expect to enjoy the latest Fantastic movie. The cast’s chemistry carried a lot, and the retro future design was fun throughout. I am mighty tired of all CGI scenes these days though. 000
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 30/05/2026These are my favorite BTs I’ve seen in a while. I would never dare but know I kinda want to! 020
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 30/05/2026The Boys stuck the landing against all odds. I did not expect to feel (cry) that much in the finale. 120
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 28/05/2026See my trick is to always sidestep that. Talk about “the interface”, UX, or UI instead 010

Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 25/05/2026We often overestimate the quality of writing at our tables, yet underestimate the value of that human connection. It raises the significance of the whole effort. An LLM can for sure generate pretty good narrative, I don’t think that’s controversial at all. Whether that’s a value add, I’m not sure. 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 25/05/2026That’s just it. Players will be so used to rote RPG tropes they won’t think to imagine anything better, is my concern. 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026As a GM lifer, I don’t feel personally intimidated by AI in the least. But I do wonder what this will do to the hobby as a whole. To me the whole magic of TTRPGs is the human connection, and voluntarily removing that feels, well, wrong. 100
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026And to be clear: I am in no way saying this is a good thing or something I’d want to use myself. But it’s going to happen regardless, and I find it interesting to think about how it will shape our hobby. 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026(I know how LLMs work, I use them for work (not creative or indeed RPGs) on a daily basis.) The angle to consider here is that to a lot of people, that low barrier interaction is more valuable than rolling their own story. Low value interaction beats no interaction, I suspect. 210
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Of course you can’t, but you don’t get that with a human GM either. I’d wager the AI is probably more consistent. What I’m saying is that there’s probably an audience who struggles to get a human GM, they’ll settle for the AI…and I’m wondering what that’ll do to the hobby in the long run. 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026It’s not the same, no, but I feel there’s probably room for different types of experiences. If people are willing to go to the trouble of generating all that with an oracle…they’ll be happy to skip the effort and just get a response to continue their play. I’m not sure that’s wrong. 010
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Today I learned about AI game masters for #ttrpg I have a lot of thoughts, first one being “heresy”. Then I considered solo gaming, oracles, and CRPGs, and I feel it’s more nuanced. 330
Joonas Laakso @jlaakso.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Gym update: moved up to pistol squats and bar dips now, two exercises that seemed out of the world of what’s possible half a year ago. 010
