Virus disease can cause extensive losses in agriculture. As viruses rely on their host cell for replication and spread, identifying host proteins and processes that play a role during infection is key to the development of novel resistance strategies. Together with cooperation partners from Hamburg University, University of Strasbourg, and John Innes Centre, JKI scientists Claudia Strauch, Khalid Amari, Nico Sprotte and Annette Niehl identified a host PPR protein involved in infection with Japanese soil-borne wheat mosaic virus and began characterizing its function during infection.
