Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here, and today, we're trying something a little different. If Batman were to have a super villain team like the Sinister Six, who would comprise the team? Spider-Man can't have all the fun. JK. There are a lot of factors to consider when composing a Batman Sinister Six. We could've gone in multiple directions, and Batman has such a storied rogues gallery that any number of his villains could make the team. I also don't think we need to go one for one with Spider-Man's Sinister Six, meaning we don't need a Batman villain version of each Sinister Six member, but I'll explain which role a villain could serve.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another another review/reaction of this week’s episode of Lanterns, “The Jordan Boys Legacy.” If you want to see our thoughts on last week’s episode, “Bad Optics,” here's a link to that review. "The Jordan Boys Legacy" had some great callbacks. That's good, sometimes even great. And this week's episode did some things to progress Lanterns season one's plot, but I'm afraid it may not have done enough. The season finale has a ton of work. As the episode's title implies, "The Jordan Boys Legacy" dives into Hal Jordan's backstory.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here, and we just barely got a fifth Wednesday this month. You know what that means: Personal Updates. Today, our writers share personal updates from the past few months. I'll kick off this post with some of my personal updates. Kyra's Updates Well, this is an awkward time for an update. Nuke-Con 2026 is a couple of days from now. Not only will I be at the board game convention, I'll be a guest of honor. What? I've never been a guest at a convention before.

Hey, hey! Kyra Kyle here. Today, our classic three lists of three post returns. We haven’t done one of these in almost two years. The last one took a lot out of me, and I wanted to retire the format for a while. But it’s back. Three lists of three posts allow Geekly to explore a topic from multiple angles, maybe even some angles we would seldom cover in a solo post. Today’s topic is transgender representation in media. Geekly started an ongoing series of transgender representation in media. Typically, that series follows television (occasionally) and movies, but let’s discuss other media.

Happy Sunday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another week of Geek News. With the holidays around the corner we have plenty of new releases for board games and video games this week. Let's get to the games. Personal Demons Launches on KickStarter A group therapy ritual where 1-4 players summon and seal away their own personal demons. This fast-paced, simultaneous-action drafting-style game has each player populating their own summoning circle in a tableau-style puzzler, aiming to form complete seals and conquer their demons. Hefty and colossal Demons of increasingly larger card sizes can be summoned and sealed once their requirements are met, and each one gives all players unique benefits that can change the way you play the game.

Happy Saturday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another Top 5 Villains List. Today's post breaks down The Punisher's best villains. Honestly, The Punisher has a thin number of unique villains. The Punisher borrows quite a few villains from other superheroes' rogues' galleries, so you may see some villains on this list that are typically connected with another superhero. This isn't to say that The Punisher is devoid of great stories; we shared some great Punisher Starter Stories a year ago, but The Punisher lacks a compelling rogues' gallery.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another review/reaction of this week’s episode of Lanterns, “Bad Optics.” If you want to see our thoughts on last week’s episode, “Lights Out,” here's a link to that review. This week's episode of Lanterns marks Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner's first appearance. Oh! Spoiler alert is in effect for the rest of this post. "Bad Optics" does a lot of heavy lifting, as in a ton of playing catch up between the 2016 storyline and 2026 (which was hinted at in the series' pilot).

Happy Wednesday, Geekly Gang! Today, our writers share what they've been listening to over the past month. Feel free to share what you've been listening to in the comments, because we're all part of the Geekly Gang. I'll get this post kicked off with what I've been listening to over the past month. Kyra's Tunes I mentioned Weezer some time last year. I still claim their first two albums are all-time greats, but the rest of the band's catalogue pales in comparison. Bassist Matt Sharpe (pictured second from the right above) was Weezer's secret weapon.

Happy Sunday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another week of Geek News. We have a ton of great games that released this week. Let's talk about some games. Yes! Onryō: First Seal Launches on KickStarter Onryō: First Seal is a fast-paced, standalone cooperative tactical game steeped in Japanese folklore. Serving as the prequel to Onryō: Seeking Solace, the story unfolds centuries before the ancient chains are shattered. From the dark fissures of the underworld, the Onryō has awakened—a terrifying spirit born from ultimate betrayal and driven by absolute vengeance.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another Top 5 Tabletop Games throughout the years. Today’s list features the best games from 2003. Unfortunately, 2003 gets sandwiched between two of the better years for board games, but that doesn't mean we don't have a handful of standouts this year. Almost every year has at least one or two stellar games. We’ll talk about 2003’s board game list soon, but let’s review the ground rules for which games make these lists before we begin. 1: Cultural relevance plays as much of a factor as overall quality.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another writing brain dump. We've entered the "Ber" Season, months ending with the letters BER, so I'm doubling down on my writing. But I had trouble getting into gear, finding a flow state, discovering my voice, and all that fun stuff. Thankfully, one method got me on track: The Literary Triptych. Literary triptychs work like art triptychs. Triptychs are the sets of three art pieces that build off one another. The artist tells a story with their set of three paintings. A literary triptych--as I define it--can do a similar thing.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another review/reaction of this week's episode of Lanterns, "Lights Out." If you want to see our thoughts on last week's episode, "The Weenie," here's a link to that review. I was pleasantly surprised when Lanterns ended its 2016 storyline this week. It ends about as well as one might imagine (not well at all), but before we get into my thoughts on "Lights Out," let's get the spoiler warning out of the way. There's little chance of me discussing this episode without spoiling the story.

Happy Wednesday, Geekly Gang! Today, our writers share what they've been watching over the past month. Feel free to share what you've been watching this past month, because we're all part of the Geekly Gang. I'll get things started with what I've been watching this past month. Kyra's Shows I've been rewatching Black Mirror episodes this past month. I've bounced from one episode I remember enjoying to the next. Even though Black Mirror's quality has waxed and waned over the years, mostly waned, the classics are classics for a reason. "Playtest," "White Christmas," "The Entire History of You," "San Junipero," and "Be Right Back" still hit hard, and newer episodes like "Joan Is Awful" are a ton of sick fun.

Happy Monday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another list of five. Today's Top 5 list centers around comic book villains who could be the main character in a television series or movie. The DCU and DCEU have been better showcasing their villains. Penguin, Black Adam, Joker, Clayface, and even Harley Quinn have all had television shows or movies featuring them as the main characters. Marvel has been less prolific. This may be a Marvel-heavy list of five, but I'll try to sprinkle in some DC Comics characters who haven't yet seen the limelight.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another week of Geek News. The Kansas City Renaissance Fair was fantastic. I had a blast. We have plenty of new releases in board games and video games. We even have some tabletop RPG new releases. What? That's right. GameFound's RPG Party returns. I'm so glad they're making this an annual event. Woot! Without any further ado, let's talk about some games. Everdell Journeys Launches on KickStarter Set out from the hustle and bustle of the big city and see the cozy world of…

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another reaction/review of this week's episode of Lanterns, "The Weenie." If you'd like to see our thoughts on last week's episode "OutKast," check it out here. This post will only cover "The Weenie." "The Weenie" goes back to the 2016 timeline, and while the episode is entertaining (Lanterns is a bingeable show), "The Weenie" illustrates why stories shouldn't feature too many flashbacks: knowing the future (to some extent) can lessen a story's tension. I'll get right to it. Spoiler warning is in effect.

Happy Wednesday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here, and today, our writers share what they've been reading over the past month. Feel free to share what you've been reading, because we're all part of the Geekly Gang. I'll kick off this post by sharing what I've been reading over the past month. Kyra's Fiction First off, I like how Marvel Comics has adopted DC Comics' Compact Graphic Novel format. Yay! These volumes fit much nicer on the shelf, they pack a lot of story in smaller space, and they're cheaper than full-size graphic novels.

Happy Labor Day, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here. To celebrate this holiday, we'll continue with what could become an annual tradition: 5 Video Games to Secretly Play at Work. Yes! Not all of us get Labor Day off, so for those of you who have to work, you may want to blow off some steam. Last year's list included some games that got delisted. I wonder if video games of this ilk get taken down frequently. I'm writing this post far in advance, so fingers crossed that these games (and their links) still work in September.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here, and today, we'll be discussing Marvel United. Yes! We haven't discussed this board game in quite some time, and it's time to fix that. Marvel United's various villains and the way they alter the gameplay are the game's most intriguing game design elements. In today's list, we'll share our picks for the Top 5 Marvel United Villains. Dishonorable Mention: Gladiator (War of Kings Expansion) Right off the bat, we're shaking up things with this list. While a Top 5 Marvel United…

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle with another board game design brain dump. I'm still submitting designs to various publishers. I've received a couple of rejections. Brotherwise Games gave me a prompt response. I've given up on a handful of publishers (like Lucky Duck Games), marking them down as "never responded" in my spreadsheet. Seriously, I wish there was a submission tracker like Duotrope for board games, so designers could share notes on which publishers are more responsive than others. I guess I can do that here. While I don't particularly care for Brotherwise Games' submission manager (they use Google Forms and pics), I do like how prompt they were with a response.

Happy Friday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle with a review/reaction of this week’s Lanterns episode, “OutKast.” If you’d like to see our review of last week’s Lanterns episode “Trust Fall,” check it out here. I have mixed feelings about Lanterns "OutKast." I watched the episode three times and went back and forth with how I read this flashback episode, and "OutKast" is a flashback episode, and this episodes use of the chosen one cliche. Let's start this discussion with "OutKast's" use of flashbacks. I figured Lanterns "OutKast" would feature plenty of flashbacks.

Happy Wednesday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here, and today, our writers share what they've been playing over the past month. Feel free to share what you've been playing because we're all part of the Geekly Gang. I'll get things started with what I've been playing over the past month. Kyra's Board Games JinxO is a goofy party game in the vein of Sixes. Each player has a dry erase marker and board and try to match other players' answers to bizarre questions. "Name an animal that looks like it's drunk." "Where on your body would you hide a weapon?" If you match with at least one other person, you circle your answer (gain one point).

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another underrated and/or underused comic book villain list. I intended to create an overall list of Underrated/Underused Batman villains, similar to early this month's Spider-Man list, but quickly found that Batman has way too many villains for just one list. Seriously. I compiled a list of almost fifty--50--villains. Not all of the villains were winners, but that left me with way too many for one or even three lists. I had to split up these villains. We'll begin with Batman villains who identify as women.

Happy Sunday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another week of Geek News. We're still taking a break from headline news, but we had some big losses in the entertainment space this week. We'll have to share some love for those we lost this past week. Yowza, what a brutal week. But first, let's talk about new releases for board games and video games. With the holidays on the horizon, we have a lot of great new releases to discuss. Let's talk about games. Effervescent Launches on KickStarter Effervescent features an organic, grid-free tile-laying system where players have infinite freedom of placement.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle with a review/reaction of this week's Lanterns episode, "Trust Fall." If you'd like to see our review of last week's Lanterns episode "Pilot," check it out here. "Trust Fall" builds on "Pilot's" great foundation. Like I said in the previous review, Lanterns "Pilot" does almost everything you'd want a first episode to do. And my concern of Lanterns avoiding the superhero genre expectations (costumes and powers) has waned. Again, I can see why Lanterns doesn't want to blow its entire effects budget in the first episode or two, and "Trust Fall" shows us more of Hal Jordan and John Stewart in action.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here. Today, our writers share what they've been listening to over the past month. Feel free to share what you've been listening to because we're all part of the Geekly Gang. I'll get things started with what I've been listening to over the past month. Kyra's Tunes If I were to tell you I've been listening to The Stranglers' "Golden Brown" on repeat, it would be an understatement. Dave Greenleaf's harpsichord mesmerizes. It scratches the right spot in my brain. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

1st Movie 2nd Movie 3rd Movie 1st Movie 2nd Movie 3rd Movie

Happy Monday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another Geekly Casting. Today's subject, the comic strip Dick Tracy, is a special case. First, Hollywood already made a Dick Tracy movie in 1990. Second, Warren Beatty retains the rights, so he or someone from his estate on his behalf would have to sell the rights. Third, 1990's Dick Tracy film was the third story in a proposed trilogy. I mentioned the True Hearts and Tommy Guns Trilogy in a previous Whatcha Reading. I won't rehash what I said in that post, but we are looking at potential prequel territory.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another week of Geek News. We had a few board games and video games release this past week. Let's begin by discussing this week's board game new releases. Spirit Train: The Final Journey Launches on KickStarter Spirit Train is played in 3 Cycles. Each Cycle consists of a series of rounds where players will determine what to do using a unique simultaneous action selection mechanic. Before the start of each day, conductors will select between a list of different rooms to fill their train with.

Happy Saturday, Geekly Gang! The Lanterns pilot episode released this past week, and I've had some time to watch the show a few times. I've got some thoughts and if Season's watched the episode, she may have thoughts as well. It's time for another Geekly review/reaction of Lanterns "Pilot" episode. Before we begin, I'll warn everyone that there will be spoilers for Lanterns "Pilot." Okay, that's out of the way. Let's get into the show. Kyra's Take Lanterns "Pilot" does everything a pilot episode should do for a series. It does a great job showing us the main characters (Hal Jordan and John Stewart) and their relationship, it creates intrigue (the question that must be answered by the end of the season), and the small town in western Nebraska even becomes its own character.

Happy Friday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another writing brain dump. I'm still going through a mountain of edits with my own work, and I'll share more of that in the coming months. The "Ber" season draws near. The "Ber" season refers to all months ending in "ber." These are the months I pour more work into my fiction, poetry, and essays. Yes! I love this time of year. Can't wait. Until then, I'll leave you with some musings on writing hooks. By my count, each novel has two hooks: an external hook and an internal hook.
