It says a lot about the Green leadership that they still seem to think that slightly better wording in the latter paragraphs might have fixed this, rather than the recognising the explosive political impact of the title.

4 October 1936. Battle of Cable Street took place in Cable Street, Whitechapel, London. It was a clash between the Metropolitan Police, protecting a march by the British Union of Fascists (BUF) led by Sir Oswald Mosley and various anti-fascist and Jewish demonstrators.

Second-born is now 24 hours into a running battle with MS work which won’t allow the word “housewives” in a GCSE essay on the 3rd Reich. It thinks that the short Austrian advocated “stay-at-home spouses.”

As a hangover from natural horns, horns were written without key signatures well into the 20thC. One of those examples of a custom persisting long after it had become illogical.

I agree - although I think fixing it to make pay-per-article easier would help. The fear of being trapped in a subscription isn't necessarily irrational.

If they mean period-pronunciation, then I’m well up for this. Earthy, rhotic, demotic (of its day) English suits these plays a lot better than the clipped post-Victorian version…

On a side note, Olly Platt’s production put the quartet in the full 1780s whiteface and powdered wigs so in becoming ‘Albanian’ they were actually coming *out* of disguise into their own natural skin and hair.
