Hi everyone. Have you played Rock Paper Scissors in a country other than the U.S.? I'd love to hear what version you've played in that language, including any fun twists. Could be a different order for the objects, different objects, fun chants, etc. Thanks!

Yes, we’ve reached that point in the Pacific Northwest summer when one must always put your arms out front in a chopping motion when leaving your house or working in the garden.

Feeling the acute grief that comes from losing an animal member of the family. Cradled our sweet little lovebird Milo this morning while she slowly lost her battle to illness. I’m a writer and yet I don’t have the words. I know we’re not alone — and I feel you.

I solemnly swear I'm using my yummy brain to bring a zombie manuscript back to life! #KidLitZombieWeek. Thanks for organizing this event (and the extra day to do the form. 🙃)

Great post!! I think what is working in my zombie manuscript is that my main character's deep sense of longing comes through. I will strive to keep that as I revise.

Like several others, am I revising too safely resonates. Sometimes nibbling around the edges definitely isn’t enough. But it can be hard to let go. And I think it helps when you have understanding critique partners who support the experimentation!

This one has me pondering hard. I've actually been thinking my zombie story might work better as an early chapter book. So maybe I'm killing off the story vessel I've been clinging to for way too long.

Great behind-the-book story, thanks for sharing! And looks like a great book. Going on the to-read list. I think the nugget of truth for my zombie story is that, for every "can't do" we experience in life, there are so many more "can do" examples. And "can't" is sometimes forever, sometimes not.

I will try starting over with a blank page for one of my old stories I don't want to abandon. And I will ask myself and picture afresh the readers I want to discover it. Who is it really meant to reach?

My new blog post explores how everyday creativity is about any activities we find personally creative and useful -- and without always seeking external validation. Curious whether that resonates with others.

I may have to share this with my brother-in-law from Hawaii. He visited us in Seattle recently and took pictures of our squirrels in the backyard, fascinated with their foraging and tree scrambles. I didn't realize they don't have squirrels, even though I've been to Hawaii several times.🐿

Overheard postal staff repeatedly chastising a man for not using certified mail to send a social services application now lost in the mail. 1. Many people relying on basic public benefits struggle to spare even a few dollars. 2. Not his fault regular postage doesn’t = reliable service. Sheesh.
