Doing a ton of long fiction writing this weekend and loving it. My latest scene to develop character involves two friends infiltrating and exploring the long-abandoned and spooky Seaview Hospital on Staten Island. Years ago I teamed up with a buddy to explore this place, and boy was it a trip.

I'd say that it's not exactly the plot/story of GG that's amazing - rather the writing mechanics and the sheer craft involved. I'd have to screenshot some of the insanely well-written paragraphs and break them down, but it'd be so much better to dissect and gobble it up in person!

I read Gatsby when I was 18 and barely 'got' any of it (although I understood the plot, ofc). I read it again at age 33 or so, and boom - immediate top 10 book pile. Gatsby has a lot of technical / crafty angles that I only saw once a teacher started pointing them out to me.
