Day 2 of the @andrea.nelson.art New Year's challenge, in which I traced rice. (I know it sounds weird. Check out her demo) This one got a little weird, but I forged ahead with a sharpie and a gold paint pen. I dont hate it? I don't love it either, but it's growing on me. #art #watercolor

The Yule cat, or Jólakötturinn, is a huge and vicious cat from Icelandic Christmas folklore that is said to lurk in the snowy countryside during the Christmas season and eat people who do not receive new clothing before Christmas Eve. #watercolor #art #christmas #cats

Some homemade autumn decor. I forgot the progress pics, but my daughter and I watercolor painted coffee filters with fall colors. After they dried, I cut them into leaf shapes and hung them up with twine. #diy #Autumn #fallvibes #homedecor #diydecor #crafting

I've gotten some new colors in my palette over the last few months, but haven't really played with them. So tonight was color wheel night. Which is your favorite? What would you paint with these palettes? #watercolor #watercolour #art #colortheory #colorwheel

You'll be glad to know skate rinks are basically unchanged since the early 90s. Except a lot more Taylor Swift.

Thank you @watercolourmentor for the loose mountain river tutorial on YouTube! I love painting landscapes, but struggle to "edit" out the details, which can make for a muddy mess. This was good practice! #watercolor #watercolour #arttutorial #landscapeart #art #artistsofbluesky

The Waters by Bonnie Jo Campbell was our bookclub book this month. I loved it. A mystic, meandering journey through life, death, childhood, motherhood. Interestingly, our group was split, my feelings were not unanimous. So take my recommendation with a grain of salt. #booksky

Put this one in the "did not finish" pile. Unfortunately, it fell into the "could have been an article instead of a full book" category that a lot of nonfiction seems to find itself in. #booksky

Read this with a family member. A bit of a change from what I'd been reading, but unfortunately it was timely. If you're tracking this current administration and lost at what to do, I'd recommend it. It was tough but I feel better armed for the days to come. #booksky

I haven't been painting lately. I'd like to be able to say it's just because I've been busy. And technically that's true, but the whole truth is more than that. My life has felt upside down for a lot of reasons, and I've been retreating into myself. #watercolor #watercolour #zentangle #mindfulness

Finished "Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah. I grew up in Alaska - albeit, in Anchorage, which the characters in this book would not consider "real" Alaska, and in the 90s, not the late 70s, when AK was a very different place. But this book reminded me of home in some ways. Highly recommend. #booksky
