12 hours later, I decided to go back and play MKWorld, see if my early-morning tired rant was worth putting out here. ...And I'm sad to report it was. While I did get to 8400VR, I lost it back to back with two bottom 3-to-dead last placements... And I ran into a cheater for the first time.

The situation with FurAffinity is pretty amazing. Advertisers threatened their advertising revenue because they considered Plus Sized characters and characters HUGGING to be adult content. So FA said fuck off, and in two days raised their entire yearly funding. Advertisers are so bullshit stupid.

I'm not kidding when I say this game is competing with DS as my favorite Mario Kart game, and could be THE best Mario Kart game the series has offered. ...But it came up short from the finish line, due to 1-UP Studio shooting themselves in the foot. ...and I don't know how I feel about that.

The true stats for each character and vehicle not being visible to the player doesn't help them, only confuses and hinders. And the complete imbalance of terrain types being in favor of the on-road combos, leads everyone to playing them regardless of the small buffs the other combos got.

...but it's bogged down by a few choices that puts a dent in the experience as a semi-casual player and long-time Mario Kart fan: 24 players may be nice for Knockout Tour...but not regular VS Races. Double items (in my opinion) were only good in Double Dash!! and have been a nuisance otherwise.

And it sucks...because I love this game; the new mechanics are cool like charge jumping and jet-skiing over water, the item rebalances are perfect for smaller lobbies, and the routes? While not perfect, they can quite a joy to race through depending on which courses you're starting and heading to.

I said a while ago that multiplayer games just feel more fun with friends/in closed groups rather than online with randoms. Mario Kart World was one of my main reasons for saying that. When a game encourages a particular type of play-style, don't be surprised if it becomes the normal way to play.

I'm just going to assume the devs at 1-Up Studio (Nintendo EPD Group #9) had no idea what they were doing with MKWorld, and are just trying to add stuff they wanted to included before the game launched, because let's be real; Mario Kart World is a complete game, but it didn't feel finished...

All of what I just ranted about has been my experience with 6000-8500VR lobbies. AND I'VE BEEN STUCK THERE SINCE 2025. 8 major patch updates. And not a single one addresses the meta problem, but EVERYTHING else that was caused by having 24 racers (better routes, new KTs, item pool changes, etc).

Bro, nearly every MKWorld lobby I get plays the exact same: - 60-90% of the lobby is using meta-combos (High Acceleration/Road Handling) - Everyone hold speed items until a large patch of off-road - Everyone spams attack/defend items the chance they get to hit someone
