Trend for Covid continues Sept 27 - Oct 3 levels are high, Flu A is also clearly heading up. Fall vaccine campaign should be earlier! Covid has been high in Aug/Sep for past couple years.

Epi week Sept 20-26 - the trend for Covid rates increasing is consistent. Makes sense when you hear about people getting sick all around! Flu A is starting to move up but will need another week or two to see the trend.

New Covid wastewater data from Sep 24, ⬆️ trend consistent. Epi week Sept 13-19 (a bit closer to current). If someone has the “flu” or “bad virus” this is the likely culprit. Similar trends in the other monitored sites in BC. Flu/RSV still low Say safe 😷 up Clean air Get your vax when you can

My moment of joy - I heard this little guy across the street. Lots of them on the North Shore and further afield but not so much in the city.

Excellent government messaging on AI 🎯
Screenshot of BC Wildfire Service Facebook post

Wildfire response involves a lot of planning, training, experience and decision-making.
Or we could just ask Al what to do next.
Just kidding.
We don't ask Al summaries or chatbots how to respond to wildfires because when you're responding to emergencies, the quality of your information matters. The same goes for the public.
Al may be useful for making your grocery list, but it isn't a source of real-time emergency information.
It can miss context, simplify complex situations or rely on information that's already out of date.
When you need to know what's happening, go straight to the source.
• Active wildfire information: BC Wildfire Service dashboard or mobile app
Road conditions and closures: www.drivebc.ca
Evacuation alerts and orders: Your local authority or First Nation and EmergencylnfoBC
Smoke conditions: BC Wildfire Service app or
www.firesmoke.ca
During an emergency, don't trust a summary. Trust the source.

Bradley Creek fire is now well north and east of Hwy 97 into Spallumcheen. Fire is moving quickly … areas previously under alert have switched to evac orders over the day. Throughts and 🙏 with friends & family in Vernon area who have evacuated, heartbreaking to see my hometown in this state💔 ❤️‍🩹

I recently got COVID after 5+ years of trying to be careful. I’m only starting to test negative after 2 weeks - seems like others have the same experience. This is not a cold. One-way masking has its limits. We wouldn’t tolerate drinking polluted drinking water, time to demand clean air!

Enshittification in action… When everyone is stuck using Microsoft 365, and Microsoft just made it impossible to disable Copilot AI. Gotta increase AI adoption rates of somehow! 💪 🤪 Today’s IT email:
Screenshot of email text:

I hope you are both doing well.:-)
As you may have heard, M365 Copilot has become the "center piece" of
M365 services (as Gemini might be considred the "center piece" of Android & Google services).
M365 Copilot is included with all
M365 licenses from M365 Basic and higher. Also, because of Copilot's integrated nature, it cannot/should not be blocked at the Network level or through endpoint protection as it could break M365 applications or cause major alert fatigue.
Also, htttps://m365.cloud.microsft,
now takes the user directly to the Copilot landing page whereas that link used to take users to the Office application page. OneDrive also need…

Is everyone so interested in this election they are crashing the result sites? IT folks tonight are sweating bullets as Elections Canada, CBC and other sites regularly go down or glitch.

It’s a good idea to mask up outdoors, close windows and run air filters in several parts of Vancouver - including Kitsilano and East Van. The smoke from the multi-building fire on Hastings @ Lakewood has spread westward. Real time neighbourhood data at map.purpleair.com/air-quality-...

Warmest fall on record in Vernon🫠
ECCC Twitter post saying

The numbers are in, and this fall was a warm one for southern #BC. Vernon saw its warmest fall on record; Kelowna and Cranbrook saw their second warmest. It was a dry fall in the Okanagan, but closer to normal or wetter towards the coast #bcstorm 🍂

Went to a hospital clinic yesterday for a routine medical thing. Lots of vulnerable people there such as cancer patients and pregnant people. One other person masked besides me, an older patient. Zero medical staff masking. Why? (beautiful sunset later that night for distraction)

Some uses of AI are almost comical, like this one in the Weather Network app. Have the tech bros serving us this stuff reached peak grift yet?

Suggest an outfit for me

Based on the weather forecast for today in Vernon, BC, which is mainly sunny with a temperature of 15ºC and a light wind speed of 8km/h, I would suggest wearing a comfortable t-shirt or blouse with a pair of jeans or shorts. You may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater in case it gets cooler in the evening when the temperature drops to 0ºC. Don't forget to wear sunglasses and apply sunscreen for sun protection.

Or for the ultimate niche product, the hydrogen powered Filet-o-Fish mobile! Maybe can do delivery when the McBarge gets up and running again? No I’m not ridiculing the hydrogen crowd, we all need to have our dreams 😊
