My wife can go from every light on in the house to dead asleep as if she’s been clonked on the head by an ACME mallet. I have to spend 90 minutes titrating existence to nothingness via progressively dimmer lights and wordless Japanese woodworking ASMR videos. And somehow we make it work.

Our local mid-range grocery chain recently updated their house brand and it’s honestly been enough to convert me. We drink generic fizzy water in this house now! Design truly can change the world.

I also feel like I am losing what’s left of my mind when smart people who work in media use Facebook’s apps and discourse about it on Twitter as if they have no theory of how media has worked for two decades or agency in the process.

This makes me feel insane! This is faux-hallmark pap
and if you believe for 1 sec that he cares about
helping people "spending more time with family" or
"opening a bakery" you don't need to wait for Al to kill
us; you're stupid enough to drown from looking up at
the rain

Muse and find it helpful but I do not believe it

It’s not that surprising we’re doing Discourse about mediocre country-inflected pop having a moment after twenty years of dominance by mediocre hip-hop-inflected pop, I suppose I am surprised it’s coming from Rolling Stone not The Daily Caller.

This reads like a pitch for an Apple ad from 1994 that was ultimately passed on for being too maudlin. That it includes a ripoff Miyazaki as the lede art is a perfect fit for how cheap it is. x.com/alexandr_wang/status/21035517…

The obvious solution is to just ban the gambling apps but I’m pretty sure that’s how we end up with President Dave Portnoy so I propose we tax their revenue at 100% for every dollar over $1,000 they make off a gambler.

Larry “Friend of Jeffrey Epstein” Summers refused to kick Zuckerberg out of Harvard for the most blatant violation of his classmates' privacy (women, natch) and now we regularly have to deal with credulous news stories from actual journalists about some obvious, awful bullshit he’s foisting on us.

Design Twitter decamping to Threads now arguing about one of their own creating a logo for Meta’s AI like it’s 2012 is a perfect encapsulation of the rot of that industry and also why Threads (and Instagram) are the worst networks because they force you to perform the most obvious self-deception.

It’s been at least twenty years since the last time I saw The Roots and tonight they were Hijo Uno’s first concert. Their show’s definitely evolved, still one of the best live bands on the planet.

Last night the preteen asked if we could talk and sat down for an hour of genuine conversation about what’s going on his life that I’m pretty sure was only 10% motivated by wanting to extend bedtime and man. That’s the good stuff right there.

I’m looking for a HomeKit compatible table lamp retrofit kit. Specifically NOT a box I plug into the wall and then have to use my phone or a remote fob (got that already), I want a button on the lamp for on/off/dim that I can schedule with HomeKit. Surely such a thing exists?

Exceedingly, perhaps a bit *too*, proud of this plywood sheet-cutting benchtop I put together to fit on my Bora Centipede workbench. Broke down TWENTY SIX full sheets of plywood by myself his weekend thanks to this bad boy
A 4x5 sheet of plywood with two pieces of rigid foam attached and a jig hanging in the center about a foot off the ground. A full sheet of plywood slots into the hanging jig and then lets you tilt the full sheet onto the tableTwo dowels on the underside at either corner allow the tabletop to fit into the dog holes of the portable workbench. A view of the portable workbench with the benchtop taken off. You can see two clamps on the underside made from some scrap boards, they secure the benchtop to the workbench via a 2½” bolt and a couple of wingnutsThe bench with a full sheet of plywood, a cutting guide for size, and a track saw
