Civ VII might actually break the cycle of "A Civ game is good once it gets two expansions" purely because the idea of this game having "expansions" is meaningless if you're asking people to fork out $150 for content AND you've had to completely redesign the original in so many ways because it failed

As someone who vastly prefers having the gameplay to support a good story vs reading or listening to a lot of characters (even if the writing is really good) it's refreshing after Three Houses did start to feel like a "do meal over and over" situation later on. We'll see how that goes though

The only detriment to that so far is that it reverts to the kind of Fire Emblem where you can tell some characters exist to fill out the roster rather than three dimensional individuals you can learn about and get to know on a deeper level, something supported by the smaller amount of voice acting

So far, having started Cai's route in Fortunes Weave, it's definitely feeling like they looked at the pretty heavy imbalance between socialising tasks and battles I experienced in Three Houses and tried to give you more things to *do* rather than *experience* Feels far less visual novel-y

I’ve had to be careful not to do the same recently and just accept friends will know people in ways I do not and that it’s not my place to interfere in their relationships But that doesnt mean I don’t see what parts of this space have started to become and what we prefer to forgive to preserve them
