Retired ECCC meteorologist, dedicated father, but not in that order. Skeptical of cynics, cynical about skeptics, exhausted by conspiracy theorists.

Oh Pierre, you do have the right to protect yourself. You don’t have the right to nearly kill someone. That’s the law, and it was properly applied. If you disagree with the law, consider becoming a politician and lobby to change it. But you won’t do that by creating anger appealing to emotion.

3/ I’ve said for years, the only verification that matters is not what was forecast versus what happened, but rather this: given the information available prior to the event, were the best forecast decisions made? I’d say they were in this case.

2/ Being a good forecaster involves having relevant experience but in these once in a lifetime events there is NO experience to draw from. No forecaster alive in that area had ever worked through such an event. Forecasters rarely forecast record events, be it record temps, winds, or pcpn.

1/ There will be questions and, no doubt, criticism of the Texas weather forecasts prior to this historic event. As a former forecaster, I can say the local forecasters did a great job from what I see. This disaster should not be politicized.

I guess this is safe to say out loud because they aren’t here.. I’m glad we’re chemtrailing like hell and adding fluoride to the water to make the flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers sterile. Aren’t you?

Finally Parliament has returned and all relevant parties are inside and hard at work.
PP is seen with his nose pressed up against the window looking inside.

When calls for Trudeau to step down began, I was repeatedly appalled to see how citizens treated public-serving figures. Then I witnessed how PP conducted his campaign, seeing how his behaviour was abhorrent and embarrassing so I exempted him my ‘treat right’ rule. Enjoy your fallback career Pierre.

In 1913, income taxes begun in the U.S. They were intended to target the wealthy. Previously, gov’t revenue came from tariffs - a cost passed on to the rest of society. Wake up America. You're going backwards. You’re being had. Hard.

I’m setting up a site to offer upper air soundings in tephigram and hodograph format. Lots of skew-T diagrams available but scant few tephigram format. It’s a work in progress. At this time showing only Canadian Regional model profiles. Observed data coming soon. Visit tephigram.ca #WxSky

Make no mistake: these tariffs are the 2025 version of a declaration of war. International trade is political; an attempted hostile takeover of country is not.

I’ve always hated the inequity of opportunities and the wealth that can result. For decades, I’ve despised those who’ve taken advantage of others in the name of ‘business’. But I’m pretty sure I don't want to applaud murder as a means of opposition to this system. I don’t wanna be them. Do you?

This is amazing. As an operational meteorologist in the Arctic Weather Centre in the mid ‘90’s, understanding the annual ice pattern was important. In just 35 years, the ice could be negligible. A climatic-scale event in a few decades.

I see many Canadians shaking their heads at Trump, rightfully so, but at the same time seem to fail to notice pierre poilievre using so many of the same tactics: avoiding detailing policies, creating anger and hate, spreading misinformation, media manipulation. Trump + PP will be brutal.
