The actual Webequie First Nations made an actual deal with the actual government. Nobody beat them into it. It’s not the place of me, or the Francophones of Ontario, or the Haudenosaunee people, or you (unless you happen to be Webequie) to gainsay the decisions of the Webequie.

Not to mention the controversial Indigenous-led land developments in Vancouver, involving the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. That’s 39 Nations in one small sample of what’s going on these days. You don't get to erase them just because you don't like their politics.

Honestly this kind of close analysis of who did or did not tank the deal strikes me as beside the point. Carney cannot have believed that Trump ever had any intention of bargaining in good faith. The negotiators may have believed that they were doing so but Trump just can’t do it. Any agreement
