Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 07/09/2026Open Minis in a rush to block YouTube We got back late from a birthday party and I was making pizzas while my son and friends were playing Nintendo and getting ready for a sleepover. Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 04/09/2026This little reader is kind of awesome. This is one of the last XTeInk 4 devices. They stopped selling them the day mine arrived from AliExpress. And it’s a shame because it’s a good example of ‘one thing well’. I have it loaded with… social.jimchristian.net/@jim/117211… 010

Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 16/01/2026Here's what separates this from a "lessons learned doc" that sits in a wiki forever: Phase 6 IMPLEMENTS the fix. Right then. The skill edited my art configuration and added a pre-flight checklist. No human had to remember to do it later. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 16/01/2026Phase 3 is where it gets interesting. 5 Whys analysis: → Why hex codes in image? Prompt included #1A8A9B → Why rendered as text? Model interprets literally → Why not caught? No pre-flight checklist Root cause identified. Now what? 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 16/01/2026Today I was generating portfolio diagrams when hex codes started appearing as visible text, arrows pointed the wrong way, and labels duplicated. Instead of just fixing it and moving on, I ran /lessons-learned. The skill walked me through structured analysis: 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 16/01/2026Most AI assistants make mistakes and forget. Mine makes mistakes and gets smarter. I built a 7-phase post-mortem system for Claude Code that transforms every failure into a permanent fix. Here's how it works: 🧵 130
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 07/01/2026I spent the holidays honing my life-admin system with Claude Code and Obsidian. When do the kids have homework? Is this doctor visit covered by insurance? When's the car service due? I built an agent called home-life-ceo to handle it. 120

Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 12/11/2025Never done a #productHunt launch before, let alone thought I would be doing it for an ebook, but here goes nothing — it’s launch day for my Signal Over Noise AI Writing Field Guide! 110
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 20/09/2025RIP my iPhone 13 Pro Max. So far loving the 17 Pro. Much (*much*) lighter. 010
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 29/03/2025Quick and dirty last minute observation from Valencia! 080
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 24/03/2025Because I’ve been watching the new #Daredevil and also because we introduced the kids to 1982’s ‘Annie’ with Albert Finney, this is the mashup that I need right now. 020
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 03/03/2025Is there a word for false notifications that only exist to try and get you to turn on your notifications? #Telegram 000
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 18/02/2025This autographed copy of Hitchhiker’s Guide. I went to a reading at the launch of Mostly Harmless (also autographed) and got to meet the late great Douglas Adams. He asked his assistant what the smiley face thing was and she told him that it was just something they put in for the American market. 000
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 15/01/2025It occurs to me that the @nytimes.com Connections game can also double as a password generator. #better-horse-battery-stapler @xkcd.com 000
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/01/2025@tailscale.com There’s no way this kind of battery usage is normal, is it? 000
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 08/01/2025So I dropped my phone last week, which shattered the back glass. Everything looks intact, there’s some mess around the camera area but I thought nothing visibly cracked. Now I’m getting this, I dunno, light bleed in some photos? 000
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 07/01/2025I put my entire network on it over the winter break, so can now access all my services from outside the house. This morning I configured all traffic to route via the DNS on my pi-hole. No more ads or trackers even when we’re out and about. 💪 020
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 03/01/2025So here’s the ideal remote setup - iPad Pro 11 with MK for main work, iPad Mini for GoodNotes, reading technical books. Both cellular. Only drawback is the sun glare - fine on the 11 as it has the awesome nano texture. But the Mini is a 6, so might have to look at getting a protector on it. 020
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 03/01/2025File server on my NAS and MacMini are mapped in my Files app, so I can get what I need in real time. But if I absolutely have to have access to the Mac Mini from outside the network, I can remote to it with Screens and Jump Desktop. 110
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 03/01/2025To that end, when I go portable, it will be on the iPad. I spent a couple of days implementing Tailscale across my entire network, so now I can get access to all my apps and data on the Mac Mini securely outside of the network. Stable Diffusion, local hosted LLMs, my Sonarr/Lidarr/Radarr setup etc. 100

Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024At this point I realise that it’s been an hour, I have to get up with the kids at half six and it’s only Monday. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024Let’s just see how he deals with this one. His defeat is in my reach. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024By the time I’ve gone back upstairs to the TV a new picture has arrived. We’re back to cat 1. I’m chipping away at him. Just like Indiana Whasisname. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024Little does he know that I, too, have access to more than one domestic cat on short notice. This one also happens to be mine. And she loves to pose. I’ve had to leave the room to find Xita for this pic. I can’t remember what game I was playing at this point. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024He’s sent another one with A DIFFERENT CAT. This will not stand. Also I think the Xbox has switched itself into power saving mode. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024I’m just about to pick up the controller and then there’s another picture of my picture on an iPad but with a different cat. He’s trying to out-cat me. I put the controller down. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024So I’m like “Dude game on.” and returned a picture of his picture of my picture, but with my cat. 100
Jim Christian @jimchristian.net · 09/12/2024I continued playing, traversing the jungle and moving branches. Then my phone pinged and my friend had sent back a picture. Of *my* picture. 🤔 100
