It feels like something from a different age now but The Canary drove certain people insane in the 2010s. (I wrote about them lots, I don't think they liked me, but they were very open in their 'well if the right are twisting facts in an online fight-to-the-death we might as well join in' attitude.)

Hahaha oh god so this post pushed me to go “ok, everyone’s shouting at a screengrab, let’s actually check what was on air”.

Angel tube station is absolutely cooked and might have to close, Transport for London's maintenance backlog is causing big trouble. (And other stories.)

Big ol' fudge on Palantir vs mayor of London. Mayor's Office For Policing blocked the Met giving a contract to Palantir. Palantir sued, said it had been illegally blacklisted. Today we've got a no-fee pay-your-own-costs settlement that includes Sadiq Khan giving a positive quote about Palantir.

This is clearly already Angela Rayner’s WhatsApp pic. Anyway probably most revealing is which friendly journalists are on the Conservative tapestry.

Ok look the Conservatives might be third in the polls and all that so you might think they have other priorities but fully support diverting all the HQ’s resources in whatever this is.

James Cleverly's just put out the outline for his London mayoral campaign. It's going to be built around repeatedly asking three questions: 1. Do you feel safe walking home alone at night? 2. Can you afford to build a future in London for you and your family? 3. Are you proud to be a Londoner?

On the one hand, Michael Gove and Nicola Sturgeon managing to give Russia an excuse to threaten nuclear war over a TV programme. On the other, big triumph for Sky's PR team. www.ft.com/content/1bb7...

When the village pub goes you’re left with nothing to do! This is community building, everyone finally has a purpose and gets to meet their neighbour and have a jape. (Yours, someone who lived in a tiny village until 17 and saw people find purpose in opposing one new house or a mobile phone mast.)

The problem with complaining about the radicalisation effect of the Facebook algorithm and how it's now based on serving up content out of nowhere is... god damn, sometimes it really DOES know exactly what content you want to consume.

Yuppppp. It was just prior to my first iPhone so I’ve just got loads of stills, have never found Tommy R in them. But only time I’ve been properly scared at a football match. Did later get CCTV from the hardware shop covering the aftermath of a potentially lethal mop incident.

I thinkkkk it was cos I successfully registered a cat to vote in the 2015 Labour leadership election. And in 2016 we decided to do an Alpaca or something like that. (I just looked up some 'big read' I did on that era, remember none of it, god journalism is stupid: www.buzzfeed.com/jimwaterson/...)

The misdirection briefing over chancellor is very funny. But fair play to the mysterious people who this morning and at lunchtime curiously backed John Healey for chancellor at odds of up to 130/1, days after the last time any bets been placed on him for the job with Betfair.

The depth of the BBC's reach is still enormous but it just keeps shrinking year on year.... In five years it's gone from 90% of adults using the BBC weekly to 81%. Still MASSIVE (and World Cup will help) but eeesh it's hard. Look at the average time spent for different age/ethnic groups.

500,000 fewer households with a TV licence in the last year.... people just ticking the box for 'nah I don't need it'. Realising that TV detector vans don't actually exist. Shout out to the 3,000 legends who still have a black and white licence.

Young adults (a category which includes 34 year olds with kids and mortgages) are just switching off completely. Look at the first graphic showing audience figures from five years ago. And the equivalent graphic from today, which shows the massive collapse.

£1300 placed on Count Binface to beat Farage on Betfair in the last hour. Could be sign of real momentum. But remember… it also could be deep-pocketed ideologically-motivated dodgy offshore gamblers trying to intervene in British politics by boosting Binface’s national standing.
